HRIBAR’S ART NOUVEAU RESIDENCE
In 1886, in Cerklje na Gorenjskem, Ivan Hribar, former mayor of Ljubljana, renovated and rebuilt his summer residence with the assistance of the Czech-Slovenian architect Jan Vladimir Hrásky. The residence, distinguished by a façade adorned with Art Nouveau motifs and a refined interior where Hribar hosted eminent guests, also featured its own swimming pool, a wind-powered water pump, and an extensive garden planted with more than a thousand trees, as well as a nearby hunting ground.
Today, the ground floor of the former Hribar villa houses the Hribar Café, where event organisers can host gatherings in a space that still reflects the zeitgeist of Hribar’s era.
A café reflecting Hribar’s zeitgeist
The modernly designed café, styled in pastel and terracotta tones, extends into an outdoor courtyard overlooking part of the former park. Here, event organisers can host functions for up to 100 guests, who can enjoy a pleasant atmosphere just a stone’s throw from Krvavec. Cerklje na Gorenjskem also serves as an excellent starting point for incentive experiences, with nearby attractions such as Jezeršek Estate, the Krvavec ski resort, and the surrounding hills.
The thoughtfully curated menu also features quotations associated with Hribar and his favourite tea.
Above the café, a museum opened in December 2025, presenting the life of Ivan Hribar and his family. As Anton Aškerc observed, Cerklje was Hribar’s Tusculum—a place where he would spend summer evenings in the company of friends. With views of the Kamnik hills, it served as a setting for important gatherings, both formal and informal. Following the renovation, event organisers have gained an additional venue suitable for hosting boutique events or conferences.
