Oskar Kogoj and a tribute to Slovenian Vidas
The story of Lepa Vida Boutique Winery began in 1988, when Roman Ipavec, the father of the current owner Irena, received permission to produce and sell wine under his own brand. The following year, renowned Slovenian industrial designer Oskar Kogoj designed a series of bottles for Slovenian winemakers, among them the Lepa Vida bottle. Shaped like a female body with wide hips symbolising fertility, it was conceived as a tribute to the courageous young women known as Aleksandrinke, who left Slovenia to work as nannies and wet nurses in Egypt. The exclusive rights to use this bottle design were granted to the Ipavec family, and this is how the Lepa Vida winery was born.
A quarter of the vineyard (8,000 vines) is planted just a short walk from the venue. The aim of Lepa Vida Boutique Winery is to work intelligently, using modern tools that support manual labour while respecting the natural flavours of the grapes. Lepa Vida is more than just a winery; it is a welcoming retreat where visitors experience a complete journey. Tastings are led by the owner or winemaker, who introduces the philosophy of viticulture, the history of the Vipava Valley, and its unique terroir.
