Ljubljana Talks is a collaborative effort in partnership with IBTM World, Ljubljana Tourism, and Kongres Magazine. Moderating these engaging conversations are Gorazd Čad, the Editor-in-chief at Kongres Magazine, and Jan Oršič, the Head of the Convention Bureau at Ljubljana Tourist Board.

As the founder and director of Toleranca Marketing, Gorazd, alongside his wife Natalija, has orchestrated successful events since 2006, notably Conventa, fostering regional connections since 2007. With a primary focus on marketing and development, he’s renowned as the Editor in Chief of Kongres Magazine, a highly influential media platform in the international meetings sphere, showcasing his expertise through insightful articles.

Jan Oršič

Jan Orsic

Jan Oršič is an accomplished professional with extensive expertise in the tourism industry, particularly in the realm of business travel. Holding a University B.Sc. in Communication, he currently serves as the Head of the Ljubljana Congress Office at Turizem Ljubljana and leads the Convention Bureau at Ljubljana Tourism. Since 2009, his focus has been on the meeting and business travel sector, actively participating in international associations such as ICCA, SITE, and ECM. He strongly believes that meetings, events, and incentives have the potential to shape a better future world.

Martin Boyle

Martin Boyle serves as the CEO of The International Association of Professional Congress Organisers (IAPCO) since April 2019, overseeing its strategic management. With a diverse career spanning decades in the global events and meetings industry, he founded a digital marketing company and specialized in corporate and association conference business across various international roles. Recognized as one of the industry’s most influential figures by Eventex in 2019, Martin believes in the profound impact of events in driving positive change within organizations and communities.

Sheriff Karamat

Sherrif Karamat, CAE, serves as President and CEO of PCMA and CEMA, leading the world’s premier community for Business Events Strategists. A visionary business architect, he shapes PCMA’s global brands to foster economic, social, and organizational progress. As the 2023 EIC Board Chair, he influences industry standards and sits on boards for Tourism Diversity Matters and the US Travel Association. Karamat is also a key member of the George Washington University’s Leadership Council for its Masters in Tourism Administration program.

Heini Etsola

Heini Etsola

Heinin has 20+ years of experience in events industry from different positions including incentive production, international congress project management and sales for the largest venue in Finland. Additionally, she was a local host project management for UITP Global Public Transport Summit 2017. In addition, she at her current role as Senior Advisor for international congresses and meetings for 12 years which has given her a great understanding of different aspects in event organizing.

Aleksandra Maksimović, Director of Montenegro Convention Bureau, is a seasoned Public Relations Manager with a proven track record in leisure, travel, and tourism. Proficient in Event Planning, Management, Tourism, Marketing, and PR, she is a University of Belgrade, Faculty of Philosophy alumna, embodying strong media and communication expertise.

Christoph Tessmar

Christoph Tessmar, born in Heidelberg, Germany, has dedicated his career to the pharmaceutical industry. Starting as an area manager in Boehringer Mannheim, South America, he later moved to Barcelona, organizing events and congresses. From 1999 to 2012, he managed numerous events for Sanofi-Aventis Spain. Since March 2012, he has been the Director of the Barcelona Convention Bureau.

 

Senthil Gopinath

Senthil Gopinath

With 20+ years in the industry, Senthil Gopinath, ICCA CEO since 2019, excelled at Sri Lanka Convention Bureau and Congress Solutions International. Adept in global event strategy, he’s an acclaimed leader, awarded PCMA-USA’s Global Business Events Strategist. Academic achievements include a European BBA, MBA, and a Doctorate in Sustainable Tourism and Urbanization.

Stephanie Harris

Stephanie Harris is President of the Incentive Research Foundation (IRF). In her role she directs the strategy and efforts of the IRF, an organization that funds and promotes research and education to increase understanding, effective use, and benefits of non-cash incentives for businesses globally. Prior to joining the IRF, Harris was part of the American Express Meetings & Events leadership team, leading global event strategy, thought leadership, and marketing. She started her career in incentives with Maritz, where she was VP of Brand Marketing & Strategy. Harris currently serves on the board of the Events Industry Council.

 

Gemmeke De Jongh

Gemmeke de Jongh, an International Association Expert at VISITFLANDERS, boasts 15+ years in the meetings industry. Specializing in advising international associations, she fosters long-term positive impacts within Flanders and Brussels, collaborating with diverse stakeholders. Based in the EU capital, Gemmeke possesses profound knowledge of European tourism and cultural policies. As the former President of MPI Belgium (2012-2014) and active contributor to social responsibility projects, she has forged an extensive national and international professional network.

Kai Hattendorf

Kai Hattendorf leads UFI, the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, as the association’s CEO / Managing Director. In this role, he is responsible for UFI activities and events globally, as well as the operation of its Paris headquarters and the offices and presences around the world. Serving the wider events industry, Kai sits on the Board of the Joint Meetings Industry Council (JMIC), the umbrella organisation for of international and global associations serving the Business Events sector. He led JMIC as President from 2019 – 2021.

Kadri Karu

Kadri Karu, the Managing Director at Estonian Convention Bureau, has been an integral part of the bureau since its inception in 2008, taking the helm as Managing Director in 2011. With 24 years of experience in the meetings industry and a background as a professional conference organizer responsible for numerous international congresses, Kadri is a seasoned expert in destination marketing. She is also a lecturer at Tartu University Pärnu College, teaching destination marketing and conference organization.

Aigars excels in various domains including convention bureau establishment, destination branding, partnership management, event operations, procurement, CRM, and tourism product development. His versatile skill set and adeptness in change management have significantly contributed to enhancing Riga’s Meetings & Events landscape.

Drew Holmgreen

Drew Holmgreen, Chief Brand Officer at Meeting Professionals International (MPI), brings over 20 years of marketing expertise. With a background in Advertising from the University of Texas at Austin, he’s led successful campaigns at firms like Belmont Icehouse. Drew drives branding strategies at MPI, boasting a diverse client roster and industry accolades. He actively contributes to industry growth through MPI initiatives and global keynote speeches, showcasing his strategic leadership akin to football’s teamwork in guiding marketing teams.

Dejan Bogdanov

Dejan Bogdanov, the Managing Partner at Vekol DMC, spearheads innovative MICE experiences in Serbia. Since 2002, as the pioneering licensed DMC in the country, Vekol DMC has redefined business travel by offering comprehensive services—from organizing events and incentives to tailored tours and eco-friendly meetings. Dejan and his team excel in strategy, planning, and top-tier implementation.

Fredi Fontanot

Fredi Fontanot, Director at the Slovenian Convention Bureau, finds immense passion in tourism and marketing. Mirjana Resner

Mirjana Resner, the Head of Convention Bureau at the Croatian National Tourist Board, spearheads the Croatian Convention Bureau, promoting Croatia as an ideal venue for small to mid-size meetings, inventive incentives, and corporate events. With over 24 years of experience within the Croatian National Tourist Board, she previously managed departments focused on organizing fairs, workshops, and promotional events. Mirjana plays a crucial role as a professional intermediary, assisting event organizers in choosing optimal solutions and positioning Croatia as a top destination for a variety of impactful events.

Petra Stušek

Msc. Petra Stušek is the CEO of the Ljubljana Tourism and President of the of City Destinations Alliance, a non-profit organization which aims at improving the competitiveness and performance of city tourism destinations in Europe. In recent years, her team has won several prestigious titles, such as the WTTC Tourism for Tomorrow 2015 award (the most sustainable destination in the world), WTM Responsible Tourism Award 2017, and many others. Ljubljana was recently named the European Best Green Capital for 2022.  In 2023 Ljubljana Tourism also reached its strategic goal and positioned the city of Ljubljana amongst 40 on the ICCA global ranking.
