In recent years, the magnificent world of the popular beverage made usually from hops, experienced some sort of a revolution all over the world. With many craft beers and smaller, boutique breweries, the industry has gained a lot of “new” popularity and technology development, bringing also new tastes and new beer enthusiasts. This is also true in Slovenia, which has in recent years experienced some sort of a beer revolution. So, no wonder the European Brewing Convention chose the country as the host of their 36th European Brewery Convention (EBC), held in Ljubljana from 14th to 18th May 2017.

EBC is an organization representing the technical and scientific interests of the brewing sector in Europe, defining itself as the scientific and technological arm of The Brewers of Europe. The European Brewing Convention is one of the main congresses, researching and debating about this popular drink and an event with great history. This year’s congress marks the 70th anniversary of EBC, since it was in 1947 when brewers and industry representatives of European countries came together for the first congress of the EBC in the Dutch seaside resort of Scheveningen.  The 2017 congress expects around 600 participants and as usually, EBC serves as a good balance between the technical lectures and social programme. With Slovenia, being this year’s hosting country, a part of the programme will serve to present the Slovenian brewing tradition, with the help of Local Organizing Committee which is organizing a “broad-band” technical tour to all delegates with combining a visit to the IHPS, the Slovenian hop research and brewing institute, to legendary Laško brewery and the amazing tourist attraction, the first beer Fountain in Žalec. And of course, also the visit to Ljubljana’s brewery Union, which has in recent years gone through quite a lot of management changes. Settled in a historic building just a step away from centre of Ljubljana, the brewery is today perfectly combining their brewery tradition presented in their museum and specialized guided tours, usually ending at their newest edition since 2014, the Union Pub, where you can experience the perfect combination of their amazing beers and the culinary treats.

The EBC will be held at the CD Congress Centre Ljubljana and its conference facilities, in direct vicinity of the historical part and centre of Slovenian capital, Ljubljana. Organized emphasized the choosing of the venue due to their location in the city’s centre, their excellent and professional services and their technical support. All in all, a great venue for their technical, technological and scientific lectures and presentations. With its great location, beautiful river Ljubljanica flowing right through the city’s centre and Ljubljana castle settled on the top of the hill, amazing architecture and rich history, superb culinary delights (don’t forget, the Slovenian cook Ana Roš has been named as the World’s Top Female chef for 2017!) and amazing Slovenian wines that have been recognized all over the world, topped with warm Slovenian hospitality and extreme professionalism, the CD Congress Centre Ljubljana and Ljubljana as the host of the event is definitely the right choice.
