To speak of Slovak culture and art is to note a tapestry of traditions, customs, folklore, and on the same breath mention its staging under different regimes, and the European context overarching it. Long steeped in an agrarian life while being subjects under the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and then after WWII, as comrades within a Soviet satellite state, Slovaks sought to preserve not only their language but also all those distinctive markings of their culture. On the other hand, the modern art of Slovakia draws influence from both Slovak motifs and European art trends. They chart the course of painting, sculpture, and illustration, and the works of new contemporary artists, such as Noémi Kolčáková Szakállová is. The artwork of a young, postmodern, in the advertisement almost street – art artist who thanks to the above mentioned plus excellent orientation in the history, created a unique handwriting. Although she is a “lonely runner” at the fine art scene in Slovakia, we can say that her art is gaining positive feedback today in Slovakia and overseas as well (Vienna, Budapest, Prague, Pune, Beijing, Washington, New York, Monaco).

Her artworks are influenced by Italian surrealistic fashion guru of the 20th century Ella Schiaparelli, that the artist admires a lot. As for the colorfulness, the influence of the extravagant extolled and condemned at the same time the Mexican artists Frida Kahlo and Paul Gauguin are present. But all these are just a subconscious mix that originated Noémi Kolčáková Szakállová.
