Apitherapy is a branch of alternative medicine that uses honey bee products, including honey, pollen, propolis, royal jelly and bee venom. References to medical properties of bee products can be found in Chinese, Korean, Russian, Egyptian and Greek traditional medicine practices. Apitherapy has been practiced since the times of Hippocrates and Galen.
Apitherapist Karl Vogrinčič, whose wisdom and 40 years of beekeeping experiences led him to create a holistic apitherapy centre, 12kilometers from the centre of Maribor runs a beekeeping family business.
The family owns a modern beehive that is not only a home to bees but also offers a special experience for human beings. Namely, the beehive looking from outside as a neat beehive is on the inside hiding a space for relaxation in an api chamber, a bed on beehives, and a massage space. In regards to Apitherapy, the Apitherapy Center offers therapy with bee venom, a heating therapy with beeswax, and other therapies using bee products.
The beehive also offers a glass wall through which it is possible to observe bees in their work. This way a visitor can closely see the world and life of bees which is usually hidden to a human eye. In the beehive, the sound of buzzing bees helps with relaxation while the air from the beehive has beneficial effects on the respiratory system.
Family Vogrinčič also runs tastings of honey, pollen, propolis, royal jelly, and beeswax; the products are also on sale for perfect business gifts.
