For all of you who are looking for something new and different, the recently opened Canopy by Hilton in central Zagreb is just the place. Perfect for smaller business meetings and incentive groups, the hotel is also a great starting point for exploring all that the capital of Croatia has to offer, and to do so by bike if you wish.

Zagreb has lots of hotels, historic, modern or typical business hotels, but if you are looking for a new and different experience, make a note of the address of Hilton’s Canopy in Zagreb’s Branimir Centre because the modern, charmingly designed hotel with friendly service and Hilton’s high standards is just the hotel for you.

From the start of the millennium and until last year, this was the location of Arcotel Allegra, the first designer hotel in Zagreb. Now the Canopy takes lifestyle design to a whole different level. The creative design by the Franić-Šekoranja studio will delight you as soon as you walk into the lobby passing a stack of bright orange coloured Canopy bikes there for your pleasure in exploring the city. As you walk in, you are bound to be charmed by a delightful combination of top industrial design and historical style furniture dotted with interesting retro details reminiscent of the history of Zagreb as an industrial town. The design is eclectic in the best sense of the word. Apart from interesting design, the Canopy hotels are known for their positively friendly atmosphere. As soon as you enter the Canopy in Zagreb, you will be greeted by young, relaxed and informally dressed hotel staff. Don’t worry about the tattooed and jeans-clad staff at the reception desk! After all, the reception desk does not look like a reception desk at all. In keeping with the brand vision, the hotel manager here is known as the ‘chief enthusiast’, and the reception desk manager as the ‘lead welcome enthusiast’. Let’s mention here that Zagreb had the honour to open only the second Canopy by Hilton hotel in Europe after Reykjavik.

From industrial packaging to street art

This part of Zagreb was surrounded by industrial plants and factories until the mid-20th century, and this fact is reflected in many details of the hotel’s design. The hotel lobby, bar, restaurant and lounge area are all reminiscent of the times past with their old posters and photographs, and samples of old packaging styles from factories that used to operate in this neighbourhood, such as Union and Kraš, Nada Dimić and Penkala. The graffiti featured in these areas recall the street art that has blossomed over the last 15 years and the famous long wall filled with art and graffiti, just across the street from the hotel, that runs along the railway tracks all the way to the central station and is a symbol of Zagreb’s street art.

The design of the hotel bar was inspired by the life stories of two of the greatest Croatian inventors, Nikola Tesla and Slavoljub Penkala, who owned a pencil factory in the neighbourhood. The ReUnion restaurant on the ground floor is reminiscent of the old days of the food industry and Union, the first chocolate factory in Southeast Europe, which used to be in this area. In the ReUnion restaurant, you can enjoy the taste of local food made with fresh local ingredients from the Dolac food market, and every evening at the Canopy Central Café Bar hotel guests can enjoy complimentary tastings of snacks and drinks from local craft breweries and wine cellars. If you wish to feel the heartbeat of the city, make sure to join Chef Marinko Topalović when he goes shopping at the food market every morning.

Comfortably and originally fitted business areas

In addition to the lounge/retreat area by the ReUninon restaurant on the ground floor, where you can enjoy some quiet time reading a book or working over a cup of tea, two smaller meeting rooms are available on the first floor. Named after the two famous inventors, Tesla and Penkala, the two meeting rooms can be joined into a single conference room for up to 40 guests. The meeting rooms are also perfect for smaller business events, presentations, cocktail parties etc. Just outside the conference rooms there is a hall perfect for coffee breaks leasing to the terrace, a hotel feature that certainly becomes important during the summer months.

The hotel has 151 rooms and eight spacious suites, a fitness room, massage room, and a luggage storage where the guests can leave their luggage before going out to explore the city or sitting down and have a relaxing drink.

Canopy by Hilton is just the right hotel for the young urban traveller, millennials and guests looking for top hotel accommodation in the central city with a special feel. As new generations take over in the business and meetings industry, this hotel is certain to thrill young business people who care about aesthetics and appreciate a nice atmosphere with a touch of local flair.
