The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (the Centre), Malaysia’s premier award-winning purpose-built facility and Asia’s first AIPC (International Association of Congress Centres) Gold Standard venue, is celebrating its 13th consecutive year at AIME (Asia Pacific Incentives Meetings Event) 2019 on the back of an exceptional year in 2018 and two recent Australia-based bid wins.
The Centre’s General Manager, Alan Pryor
Alan Pryor, shared “We are delighted to be back at AIME, it’s always a great way to kick-off the new year, especially after the busy and successful year we had in 2018. Australia continues to be an important market for us and we are particularly pleased to have recently been selected as the venue of choice to host the Australian & New Zealand College of Anaesthetists Annual Scientific Meeting 2019 and 5th Asia-Pacific Glaucoma Congress (APGC) 2020.”
He continued, “We are a proud and active member of the AEG Ogden family, which is well represented in Australia by high-profile local venues such as the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, Cairns Convention Centre, Darwin Convention Centre and ICC Sydney. We often collaborate with our sister venues sharing knowledge, best practice models and business leads.”
“Of particular kudos is our recent bid win to host the ISMRM (International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine) 27th Annual Meeting & Exhibition in 2024,” added Pryor. Pryor concluded, “2019 is looking like another lively year for us. We have a strong calendar of events lined up and the opening of our expansion, which my team and I are really focused on right now. We can’t wait to share the 11,000sqm of brand-new flexible space with everyone, which will enable all our clients to grow their events and allow us to host more concurrent events.”
The Centre also has longstanding relationships with the Australian High Commission Malaysia, Malaysia Australia Business Council (MABC) and Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA). Over the years, these connections have provided an in-depth understanding of the Australian market, allowing its team to better meet the needs of Australia-based clients and Malaysia-based Australian companies.
The Centre recently partnered with the Australian High Commission Malaysia to host the 12th consecutive Australia Day celebration. During the grand and stylish reception, the Centre not only unveiled its new line of live cooking stations, which added a touch of theatre to the guest experience whilst they were served an authentic ‘Aussie experience with a local twist’. Handcrafted magnificent ice sculptures depicting some of Australia’s most loved icons such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge, a kangaroo and a koala were also part of the immersive experience.
In 2018, the Centre achieved its highest ever economic impact delivered to Malaysia of RM888 million and number of participants welcomed, with 2.18 million, in a calendar year. The Centre also hosted 1,485 events, a 17% increase in number of events compared to 2017.
Attendees at AIME are welcome to come by to say ‘G’Day’ to the Centre’s team members at Booth A3 to discover more about the Centre, Kuala Lumpur, and Malaysia’s compelling and affordable business events proposition.
