Penang successfully hosted the 6th Annual Project Management Institute Malaysia Chapter (PMIMY) International Symposium from 25 to 27 February. The Symposium was held at G Hotel Gurney and was attended by more than 150 delegates from around the world.

A good mixture of local and international delegates attending

Project Management Institute Malaysia Chapter (PMIMY) is the local chapter of Project Management Institute (PMI), a global leading non-profit organisation dedicated to the advancement of the professional development of project management practitioners. This year marks the 50th anniversary of Project Management Institute (PMI), and also silver jubilee for the Malaysia Chapter (PMIMY).

“The 6th PMIMY International Symposium 2019 theme was based on “Project Management for the Future – Transformation Starts Now”. The International Symposium focused on the challenges faced by project managers in the fast-paced, technologically advanced globalized environment and how project managers can adapt and upskill themselves to meet future disruption,” said PMIMY President, Mr. Krishnan Srinivas at the launch of the symposium.

The International Symposium was officially launched by YB Dato’ Haji Abdul Halim Haji Hussain, the Penang State EXCO for Domestic and International Trade, Consumer Affairs and Entrepreneur Development. In his speech, he spoke about Penang 2030 vision for a sustainable, liveable city and the Penang State Government’s commitment to hosting world-class conferences in Penang. The International Symposium featured 9 notable speakers on respective project management transformational related topics. The keynote speaker, Mr. Randall Black who is the Chair of the Strategy Oversight Committee of PMI Board of Directors spoke about Project Management Leadership.

Over the 2 days of the conference, the delegates had the opportunity to learn from senior leaders across various industries including Datuk Dr Leow Chee Seng of Humanology; Peter Wyss of PMCC Corp; Pang Yee Beng and Loretta Fellers of Dell Technologies; LimGaik Siang of Penang Heritage Trust; Boonsiri Somchit of Xtrategize Technologies; Yvonne Ng of ANBIZ; and Yaamuna Aldragen, a transitions coach.

Day 3 of the International Symposium was an experiential day for the delegates as they enjoyed team building activities across Penang’s renowned UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the afternoon, the delegates were given a tour of Dell Technologies factory in Bukit Minyak, a key sponsor of the International Symposium.

“The International Symposium was a great success with a good mixture of local and international delegates attending. PMIMY hopes to continue growing the professional association through organizing many more local and international events in the future,” said a spokesperson of PMIMY.
