BESydney builds key relationships with 50th anniversary Asian familiarisation

A spectacular firework display over Sydney Harbour’s Goat Island was the culmination of an inspiring five-day Sydney familiarisation (famil) visit, 26-30 May 2019, for 21 corporate clients, travel agents and media from China, India, Japan and Taiwan, as part of BESydney’s 50th anniversary year.

Sydney’s business events bidding services specialist curated an action-packed showcase of what Sydney and its surrounding regions have to offer including a twilight BridgeClimb during the annual Vivid Sydney festival of light, music and ideas; a Harley Davidson ride along Sydney’s foreshores to meet the city’s renowned Bondi Lifeguards; up-close dolphin encounters at Port Stephens; horse riding in Glenworth Valley; and a private tour of the Sydney Opera House with a performance from Opera Australia soprano, Sharren Zhai.

“Sydney has so much to offer our fast-growing incentive clientele based across Asia, and our 50th anniversary year provided a fantastic opportunity to show them new takes on the impressive experiences our partners can provide,” said BESydney CEO, Lyn Lewis-Smith.

“I have to thank our partners at New South Wales (NSW) National Parks and Wildlife Service, Qantas, Luna Park Venues, International Convention Centre Sydney, BridgeClimb Sydney, InterContinental Sydney, Hyatt Regency and Encore Event Technologies who pulled out all the stops to show off our city at her finest,” she added.

“Incentive gatherings and corporate meetings from Asia now make up some 50 per cent of BESydney’s business event wins each year, more than doubling over the past decade. We were one of the first Australian convention bureaus to commit to the Asian market, and those longstanding ties have given us a great foundation to continue to grow.”

NSW Minister for Energy and Environment, the Hon. Matt Kean MP welcomed the international guests to the Goat ‘Me-mel’ Island farewell and the Koomari Indigenous Performers provided a heartfelt Welcome to Country complete with Indigenous singing and dances. Breathtaking fireworks ended the evening with views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, lit by Vivid Sydney, and Australian classics sung by the Australian Girls Choir.
