Maribor, the second largest Slovenian city, will also this year be dressed in numerous December festivities that will enrich the city’s experience towards the end of 2019. The first festivities are announced for the 22nd of November spanning from switching on the decorative lights to several fairs and numerous open-air concerts and parties, including the New Year’s Eve celebration taking place at the largest square in Slovenia.

WINTER GATHERING ZIMSKA LUFTARCA

On the 22nd of November, the fairy-tale overlooking the city will welcome visitors to enjoy in its magic. The fairy-tale atmosphere will, among other magical designs, include lights, fireplace, snowy row of trees, and richly decorated spruce. Winter Gathering Zimska Luftarca will be on display in Luft 360 bar, on the 11th floor of the Slavija business centre, to the delight of local and foreign visitors until the 21st of March 2020, when the Spring will replace the Winter time.

SWITCH ON THE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

On the 29th of November at 17 o’clock, Maribor”s city centre will shine in its enchanting colours that will adorn the city’s streets and squares. The Switch on the Christmas Lights will officially open the December 2019 festivities and celebrations.

FESTIVE FAIR

On the same day, the Festive Fair will open its stalls that provide a full range of authentic, high-quality products of handicraft and art crafts as well as traditional cuisine. The fair will be open every day until the 30th of December between 10 and 19 o’clock on the Grajski Trg Square.

Also from the 29th of November, the Fairy City with numerous events will be daily taking place in the Maribor Centre up until the 28th of December. The 7th Fairy City in a row is a place of joy, socializing, creativity and imagination. Events will take place in the city streets, coutyards, and squares. Any congress or business guest in Maribor will be able to attend concerts, puppet shows, creative workshops, and street theatre.

WINTER FAIRY-TALE ON GRAJSKI TRG SQUARE

Winter Fairy-tale will also officially be opened on the 29th of November. It will take palce on the Grajski Square Trg until the last day of the year 2019.  Winter Fairy-tale will combine the beautiful Christmas atmosphere with rich musical programme, workshops for children, Christmas sweets’ bakery, mulled wine, and other street food delights.

ARRIVAL OF ST. NICHOLAS

On the 5th of December, St. Nicholas with angels and devils (parkeljni) will arrive at 17 o’clock to the Grajski Trg Square. A vocal band Florentine will accompany his arrival.

GRANDFATHER FROST ARRIVAL

On the 7th of December from 17 to 18 o’clock, at the Snow Stadium under the Mariborsko Pohorje, a song about Grandfather Frost will wake up the fairy-tale creatures from Pohorje. The lights will go off and a tiny light from the top of the dark snowy slopes will start making its way down towards the excited children and adults.

GRANDFATHER FROST FAREWELL

On the 28th of December 2019, Grandfather Frost will greet the gathered audience at the magic show held at the Vetrinjski dvor (and its fairy city) at 17 o’clock and then he will walk to the stage at Trg Leona Štuklja Square.

NEW YEAR'S EVE CELEBRATIONS

The big New Year’s Eve in Maribor is a unique experience in the Old Town, on the largest Slovenian square, the Trg Leona Štuklja Square. Celebrations will start at 21 o’clock and will last until 3 o’clock in the morning. The New Year’s Eve in Maribor has the longest tradition among all the New Year’s celebrations in Slovenia. Thus, carefully selected programme ensure a proper New Year’s Eve fun. Every year, several thousand visitors from Slovenia and abroad enjoy in the best Slovenian singers and bands.
