From culture to high-level Minister’s meetings, Croatia is a great place to gather
Rijeka is due to join the family of over sixty other European cities that hold the title of the European Capital of Culture, is known as the gateway to Croatia’s Kvarner islands and is a city that celebrates cultural distinctness and diversity. Located in the Kvarner region, Rijeka is Croatia’s third largest city, but remains a hidden gem of the Adriatic. Rijeka has become a place for dynamic life, a symbol of the libertarian spirit and progressive ideas, and a city where everyone and anyone different is welcome. Rijeka will become one of two European Capitals of Culture on February 1st and will prove itself as a place of exemplary cultural diversity and the perfect destination for those looking to truly immerse themselves in Croatian culture.
The full cultural program in Rijeka for 2020 can be found here, but don’t forget that Carnival season in Rijeka kicks off from 17th January – 25th February 2020. While the whole Kvarner Region was named Lonely Planet’s Best International Destination for 2020, while also currently nominated for the European Best Destination 2020 title.
Rijeka also neighbors Opatija, one of Croatia’s oldest tourist destinations and home to one of Croatia’s major convention bureaus – yet another reason to consider the region for your MICE needs.
In addition to Rijeka, the capital city of Zagreb is also center stage this year, as Croatia has taken over the seat of the presidency of the Council of the European Union just a few weeks ago. Zagreb is best known for its award-winning Christmas market and claiming the largest number of museums per capita in Europe, as well as the shortest funicular at only 66 meters in length, the funicular has been in operation since 1890. While Zagreb is the capital, here is the list of Croatian “must-see” places this year. Along with Opatija and Dubrovnik, Zagreb also boasts a convention bureau, that together with Croatian National Tourist Board’s convention bureau are available to support both large and small-scale events throughout the country.
