Travelling habits after corona crisis are changing and like meeting and incentive planners, we will be even more selective when organising incentives abroad. Referring to the most recent survey of the Kongres Magazine website, the most important factors for choosing a destination will be health safetyaccessibilityvalue for money.

Slovenia continues to build its image as a green, healthy and safe destination. Maribor, Slovenia’s second largest city, provides a wide range of experiences in a green and safe environment.

Maribor is a vibrant city, rich in culture and history, surrounded by the picturesque Pohorje hills and forests, that can be reached from the city in only a few minutes. Pohorje is a paradise for hiking and biking and during the winter, it turns into the perfect winter resort with ski-slopes for all skill levels.

Our proposal for the perfect incentive in Maribor

Starting off the day with a cable car ride from the foothills of Pohorje, you will catch glorious morning views over Maribor. At the Pohorje plateau, 1.000 m above sea level, locals will welcome you with a plate of home-made appetizers that will give you energy for the forest adventure. It can be a biking or hiking tour or a combination of both that will take you through wonderful primaeval forests, past numerous waterfalls, jaw-dropping lakes (Lovrenška Mountain lakes) and much more, but most of all, it offers an incomparable tranquillity where you can relax, enjoy the fresh air and pamper yourself in the heart of the majestic forest.

A variety of intensity levels

An incentive programme can always be adjusted to the needs of your group, starting from an easy yoga session in the middle of the woods to an adrenaline-packed mountain biking session. Many team building activities can be implemented into your incentive programme, from cooking classes in one of the mountain huts, treasure-hunts or survival challenges. Adrenaline lovers don’t need to buy a return ticket for the cable car. Why? Well they can descend from the Pohorje mountain on a bike, through the wild slopes of the Pohorje Bike Park.

Taste Pohorje

Maribor is a treasury of excellent cuisine. During your trip, we will find the perfect spot for a picnic in the forest or take you to a lovely authentic mountain hut with traditional local dishes, snacks and desserts, complemented by a glass of excellent local wine. One of the most popular dishes is a stew “Pohorski pisker” made from local ingredients, such as root vegetable, porcini mushrooms, pot barley porridge and the meat of the Pohorje cattle with fresh herbs.

Maribor will also surprise you with its fine-dining experiences. For ending your active day in style, we would recommend a wine-tasting tour in the city centre with a visit to the Vinag Wine Cellar, one of the largest and oldest classical wine cellars in Europe and the Old Vine House in Lent, followed by a dinner in one of the fine-dining restaurants. If you aren’t feeling too fancy, eating at one of the local tourist farms at the nearby wine hills is an excellent option.
