It is the first historical building within Ljubljana’s old Tobacco Factory premises to be renewed. It was opened on 19 March 2011. Tobačna Gallery

Tobačna Gallery is an integrated venue devoted to presenting artists with solo shows and most recent productions. The gallery’s programme comprises exhibitions of Slovenian and international artists who showcase their projects on completion of their two-month residence. Since its opening in 2011, the artist-in-residence centre at the CC Tobačna 001 has hosted a considerable number of artists, as well as enabled Slovenian artists to take part in residence programmes abroad through public invitations and in collaboration with international institutions.

Constructed in 1885, the building was used as an auxiliary facility of Ljubljana’s tobacco factory. It primarily housed a washroom for workers, equipped with showers and bathtubs. During the 1970s, the building was converted into a factory canteen and in the early 1990s into the factory’s archives. Following its renovation, the tobacco factory Tobačna Ljubljana and the construction company IMOS-G – the investor and the constructor of the future residential, business-administrative and cultural quarter – placed the building at the disposal of the Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana.
