More than 3,600 events in 2019 in the city and state of Salzburg

With more than 230,000 event participants, Salzburg was once again in second place behind Vienna in the Austrian state rankings. Over 400,000 overnight stays were recorded in the city and state of Salzburg from congresses, business conferences, and seminars.

Following the relaxation of restrictions in the last few weeks, the meeting industry is preparing for the “new normal”. This means that the first live events and hybrid events will take place in Salzburg since the COVID-19 crisis. It is interesting to see the sort of structural trends emerging from previous years.

Large rise in overnight stays

Out of the 3,607 conferences held in Salzburg in 2019, almost 60% were from the economic and political sector, followed by human medicine, and technology with 12% each.

With 400,071 registered overnight stays from congresses, business conferences and seminars, Salzburg recorded an increase of 12.4% compared to last year.

Gernot Marx

Managing Director of the Salzburg Convention Bureau

“Throughout Austria, there is a lot of expertise in organizing green meetings and events. Over 200 green meetings and green events with a total of about 330,000 participants were registered in Austria in 2019. Salzburg accounted for 14% of this number. “The trend for sustainability will continue in the post-Corona period and is bound to become stronger yet,” says Gernot Marx, Managing Director of the Salzburg Convention Bureau.

“Together we want to convince event planners that our famous hospitality can be enjoyed again safely and at its usual high standard, allowing us to continue the positive development of the previous years,”
concluded Marx.
