Slovenian MUSIC industry joins the #RedAlertDay movement

On August 11, over 715 buildings across the UK lit up in red to symbolise the current danger that over one million people in the live events industry face. The #WeMakeEvents and #RedAlertDay movements focused on raising awareness for over a million professionals working in the technical side of the entertainment industry.

In the same spirit, representatives of the Slovenian music industry gathered in Ljubljana for a silent protest. The main message of the protest was: “Let us work!” Musicians gathered in front of the National Assembly Building of Slovenia, where they brought suitcases full of equipment that hadn’t been used for over 6 months. A message on one of the suitcases read: “99% of suitcases have not left their warehouses this year. Now think about all the hands and heads of those shaping the music scene”

Just like London’s National Theatre, the Royal Festival Hall and the Royal Albert Hall, some of Ljubljana’s cultural institutions also lit up in red colour.

“The Slovenian government forgot about over 30.000 people working in the music industry and culture, while blinding citizens with tourist vouchers. When they officially called an end to the coronavirus epidemic, everything went back to old tracks. What are we supposed to live off of?” warned the peaceful protesters.

Musicians made a vow to radicalize the protests if the government does not take their call to action seriously.
