The pilot project in Berlin clubs ends with seven positive PCR tests and shows promising prospects

The Berlin club commission has drawn an initial positive balance of the pilot project for corona clubbing. Last weekend around 2,000 people were allowed to dance in six Berlin clubs without a mask or distance. However, they had to bring a negative PCR test with them – and will be tested again next Friday.

There were seven positive tests at the start of the Corona pilot project in six Berlin clubs. “The people concerned have been contacted and placed in quarantine,” said Lutz Leichsenring from the Club Commission. Furthermore, he said that after the complex registration and testing, it was a club night similar to before the pandemic for the participants. He also sees possible prospects for autumn.

The clubs had to close a year and a half ago to contain the spread of the coronavirus. With #UnitedWeStream, Berlin event venues broadcast music from empty dance floors into many living rooms. In the meantime, it is allowed to dance outside in the capital again – in compliance with hygiene regulations. Dance events have not yet been allowed inside.

Leichsenring was satisfied with the start: “All safety mechanisms have taken effect.” A total of around 2200 PCR tests were carried out on Friday. In addition to the 2,000 guests, artists and staff were also tested, said Leichsenring. In six Berlin clubs, including the “Kitkat”, the “Renate” and the “SO36”, you can dance again on two nights this weekend – without a mask or distance, but with a negative PCR test result. The “Reboot Club culture” pilot project aimed to show the internationally celebrated Berlin club scene new perspectives after 18 months.

The 2000 tickets for the project were sold within hours. According to Lutz Leichsenring, the parties on Friday evening were well attended. Inside, the guests took off their masks, relieved. Klaus Lederer was also thrilled about the start of the project, stating: “Club culture is part of the city’s DNA.”
