The Meetings Show 2021 celebrates a successful first day

The Meetings Show has experienced a successful first day in its first incarnation as a hybrid event, with thousands of meetings taking place between suppliers and buyers, both face-to-face and virtually; hours of insightful education sessions delivered and valuable connections made.

The show – the UK’s leading platform for the world’s meetings and events community – was opened by Tourism Minister Nigel Huddleston.

The MP for Mid Worcestershire took a tour of the show floor at ExCeL, London, speaking to a number of exhibitors, including VisitDenmark, West Midlands Growth Company, Liverpool Convention Bureau, London Convention Bureau, VisitScotland, VisitBelfast and VisitWales, at their stands.

“The business events and meetings industry makes a huge contribution to our economy and will continue to play a vital role.”

Nigel Huddleston said: “It was fantastic to visit and open The Meetings Show today and meet the many exhibitors who are supporting the sector as it rebuilds. To see events professionals come together to share ideas and opportunities today demonstrates the enduring creativity of business events.”

As well as attending meetings with the show’s quality exhibitors and networking events, visitors flocked to education sessions to hear panel discussions on subjects such as sustainable events and professional growth, while presentations were delivered on virtual networking, hybrid meetings and wellness.

Jack Marczewski, event director, The Meetings Show, said: “It has been so exciting to see the meetings, events and incentive community back together and experiencing the joy of live events again after a year apart.”

“Activity has also been busy across our virtual platform and it has been great to see so much support for the industry. It was an honour to have the Tourism Minister open the show today and to be able to witness the passion he has for the industry first-hand. I am looking forward to seeing more business happening tomorrow as well as listening to our very own headline act, Ric Salmon.”

The show continues tomorrow (Friday 1 October) with more meetings and education sessions planned, and the show’s headliner – Ric Salmon – delivering his keynote.

The producer of the first virtual Glastonbury Festival and CEO of Driift will take to the Main Stage at 11:50am to tell the audience what it was like delivering Live at Worthy Farm, about his experience in producing ticketed online events and share anecdotes from his music management career.
