*Andaz is Hindi and means personal style.

Right next to Vienna’s main train station that started operating in 2015, a vast business neighbourhood brought a breath of fresh air to the district. The exemplary urbanistic project has, as expected, become home to several hotels and other public facilities. A completely new, ultramodern, safe and alluring urban area was built, showing the future of sustainable development of cities. If world-renowned architects are involved, the result is outstanding architecture that one can do nothing but bow down to and admire. In the city of the future, Renzo Piano was one of many who left their mark and created Park Apartments and hotel Andaz. Even though the location next to the Belvedere is not central, the heart of Vienna is not far away, given the ultra-modern Viennese transport. Alternatively, you can decide to rent a bicycle or go on foot. Hotel Andaz is adjacent to the baroque Belvedere Palace, where you can marvel at the paintings of Viennese impressionists and revel in jaw-dropping exhibitions during your event.

The state-of-the-art train station, modern trains and tidy public infrastructure appeal to event organisers to opt for sustainable mobility. The hotel’s connection with such a traffic junction is exceptional and enables easy access to the airport and Vienna’s main attractions. We full-heartedly recommend renting bicycles. The train station is a traffic junction and, more importantly, a programme-filled crossroad that includes a rich gastronomical, market and service offer. The traffic infrastructure of Austria’s capital is a good case practice. In this light, the hotel is not lagging and encourages carsharing. Getting to and around Vienna as elegantly as you can is unmatched. The airport offers numerous connections, and you will need no more than 20 minutes to get to your terminal.

COLD STARTER - Architecture and aesthetics

Hotel Andaz is the only project of the legendary architect Renzo Piano in Austria. He is the recipient of the prestigious Pritzker Architecture Prize, considered the Nobel Prize of architecture. Upon seeing his Viennese creation, it seems the entire building defies the laws of gravity and floats above the ground. The moment guests set foot inside and feel the architecture, they can fully cherish the philosophy that the architecture should firstly serve people and then the architect. The architectural result is a phenomenal congress hotel that understands the needs of meeting planners. Airness, vastness and openness define the incredible congress centre that follows the design of the neighbouring Belevedere. All around the hotel, guests will be amazed by the spectacular views, premium materials and attention to detail. Among the most memorable details are the floor labels, flooring on the halls, and the memorable coat hangers in front of the doors. The building is also energy efficient and the proud holder of the LEED Gold certificate.

WARM ENTRÉE - The staff and the culinary experience

Genuine and unfaked kindness is rare in modern hotels. In hotel Andaz, though, we felt it from the reception to the room service. Everything appears to be functioning in line with the values of world-class hotel service. That was one of the reasons we felt great during our stay. Equally splendid was the culinary offer. Hotel breakfast was umami incredible, cosmopolitan and signature of chef Richard Leitner, who earned himself a place in the Gault&Millau guide. In the breakfast area, reminiscent of a Viennese cafe, guests can indulge in modern interpretations of Austrian cuisine. The gastronomical offer is not limited only to classic dishes; it also includes rare dishes such as roasted venison with cherries and mushroom or young pork with cabbage. The unmissable signature desserts are on offer for guests to try at breakfast. Tarte Tartin and carrot cake were our favourites.

MAIN COURSE – The meetings offering at the hotel

Hotel rooms

A room with a view, an art studio, an elegant haven, a designer saloon and whatnot come to mind when staying at one of the rooms at hotel Andaz. The brightness and the impressive wooden floor of the room are enriched by details that one explores during their stay. Guests need not look further for inspiration than the bathroom with exceptional lighting or glance at the art pictures that hang as if the room were a studio. The comical illustrations on the walls of the bathroom and closet are captivating. Altogether, the details are balanced by a fresco-like bed wallpaper. The minimalist bathroom boasting marble-like tiles is fantastic. The workspace with the interpretation of a Viennese cafe chair and lounge chair make the room complete. Outstanding.

Meetings centre

You will hardly come across such a thought-out congress centre in other hotels. The design is entirely different from the expected hotel banquet hall for 200 participants. The main hall, named Lower Belevedere, is a multifunctional hall with five-metre tall ceilings that enables even the most demanding productions. Upper Belvedere is a slightly smaller hall that can be divided into three parts. Plenty of daylight shines through all halls, highlighting the quality materials used. The furniture evokes a Scandinavian hygge feeling. A story of its own is the smaller creative space – halls Artists, Architect and Tailor are equipped with all the necessary video conferencing equipment. The exhibition space is larger than the space inside the congress halls, making it ideal for challenging events. I warmly recommend all developers to see the centre for themselves, as it is a textbook example of a congress centre of the future.

DESSERT – The extras

The spacious interior exhibition space (1130 sqm) is complemented brilliantly by the charming outdoor terrace that features co-working desks. During warmer months, the outdoor market, part of the terrace, can serve as an ideal venue for events.

During our stay, we had no remarks and found no flaws. Perhaps, though, a tiny disclaimer. If you are a lover of classic hotels with historical backgrounds, the hotel might not be your cup of tea. Lovers of modern architecture, however, will be amazed.

Aurora Rooftop Restaurant, offering a dream view of Vienna, is one of the hottest special venues in the city. Do not overlook the excellent offer of cocktails, regardless of whether you are visiting the hotel on a business occasion or privately.

To conclude, I must praise the hotel’s green endeavours. The hotel strives to reduce its carbon footprint with several measures. Your search for plastic in the hotel will be in vain. As previously mentioned, the hotel boasts the LEED Gold energy certificate. Moreover, the menus and labels of designer pieces on display are digitalised, only recycled paper is used, and the hotel is committed to purchasing local food.

Hotel Andaz heralds new times. It catches attention with its mighty architecture, unparalleled hospitality and countless surprises, all wrapped in an alluring pack. The designers of the interior were Claudio Carbone and Gabriel Kacerovsky. Conceptually, they devised it as an extension of the renowned contemporary art gallery Belvedere 21, sitting across the road. Hotel Andaz’s quality and intriguing space will stay appealing for a long time. The materials are compact and quality, thus creating a pleasant atmosphere. The hotel has confirmed high expectations set by colleagues who had previously organised events in the hotel. Hotel Andaz has taken the top spot on our list in 2021. Congratulations!

Hotel Andaz heralds an era of new city meeting hotels where the wellbeing of participants and organisers is prioritised. The hotel’s congress centre is a textbook example of what congress centres will look like in the future. Furthermore, the hotel is a winner because it has become the heart of the new city district with its offer. Having become a meeting point, guests and locals meet here to enjoy art, revel in cultural events, recreate or enjoy a coffee. Countless positive comments by satisfied hotel guests prove that investing in fantastic, sustainable architecture pays off. Guests also appreciate the hotel’s green endeavours to decarbonise the hotel. In fact, one cannot but actively participate in the hotel’s admirable aim. Renzo Piano’s signature is the icing on the cake of the entire experience.

Hotel Andaz has earned the top spot on our list of the best city meeting hotels because of its unmatched congress centre, easy accessibility, professional and kind personnel, and the inspiring holistic offer that shows the way ahead. Thus, it is our honour to pronounce it as the MEETINGS STAR in the category of TOP CITY MEETING HOTELS.
