FORMER SEAFOOD MARKET

Trieste’s Exhibition Centre of Modern and Contemporary Art, located in the heart of the city, is a former seafood market that has been transformed into a bustling hub for events and conferences. Located on Riva Nazario Sauro 1 and built in 1913, this extraordinary venue is the work of the architect Giorgio Polli, who devised a type of functionally and aesthetically pleasing construction. The venue’s design follows a neoclassical architecture while ensuring enough creative space for a variety of events.

The former seafood market was a hub for meeting and purchasing freshly-caught fish. Today, similarly, the venue is where meetings planners can hold their event or conference in a venue inspired by local heritage. Recently, the venue was home to a unique exhibition that featured an invasion of coloured snails that invigorated the city with a one-of-a-kind exhibition. Trieste was populated with huge animals in bright colours that made the heart of the city an open-air art gallery.
