Yundola - home of Bulgarian cross country skiing
When referring to Bulgarian winter tourism, the first associations are usually the country’s most renowned winter centres, such as Bansko, Pamporovo and Borovec. However, Bulgaria is also home to several smaller and more authentic ski resorts. Yundola, located 16 kilometres from Velingrad, is an exceptional ski centre that sits at 1400 metres.
Yundola is home to several ski slopes that offer skiers, snowboarders and sleighers unparalleled experiences, albeit the slopes are not the steepest nor the longest. The good news is that visitors do not have to wait in lines for ski lifts, and the prices are significantly lower. On average, the ski season lasts for at least 80 days.

The heart of the offer is cross-country skiing trails that are excellently maintained alongside a winter stadion, a shooting range for biathlon and suitable infrastructure for cross-country skiing. Yundola has become known for hosting matches for the Ski Orienteering World Cup. In 2018, the ski resort played host to the European Ski Orienteering Championship. Ski Orienteering is an endurance winter sport, combining navigation and cross-country skiing across rough terrain using prepared cross-country ski tracks. A ski orienteer combines high physical endurance and strength, excellent technical skiing skills and the ability to choose the best routes. Ski orienteering is a recognised Olympic Sport.
It appears Yundola was made to host such sports events. The enchanting forests and hills are, in addition, suitable for tourism in the summer. Clean air and a favourable climate are prerequisites for conducting climate therapeutical programmes. They have beneficial effects on breathing organs and general wellbeing. That is why Yundola is perfect for escaping the summer heat.
