NEW CENTRE OF CONTEMPORARY CREATION
Novi Sad holds the title of European Capital of Culture in 2022. Its Creative District is where the sounds of machines of the former industrial zone were replaced by contemporary creation. The former industrial space that has been fostering a 100-year-long history of craftsmanship heritage is an outline of what lies ahead for Novi Sad and its innovative people.
The venue features seven spacious spaces for organising events and several smaller ones used by up-and-coming artists. The Creative District represent a good case practice for the restoration and preservation of industrial heritage.
Kaleidoscope of Culture
The idea of transforming an abandoned zone into a creative district took off in 2021. The beginnings of the revamped area were displayed during the opening ceremony of the last year’s flagship festival of Novi Sad – the European Capital of Culture project, Kaleidoscope of Culture. The event emphasised connecting industrial heritage and contemporary creation through innovative programmes.
In addition to the Creative District, Novi Sad has developed a model of culture unique in the region – a network of cultural stations that opened their doors to artists and local citizens.
