From a glass factory to a cultural hub

An old glass factory in Slovenia’s oldest town has recently been revamped and reopened as a youth cultural centre. The project will reestablish the centre of Ptuj as a regional hub for innovation. Estimated at 4.9 million EUR, the renovation has been lauded by event organisers, who look forward to hosting their events in the new venue steeped in industrial history.

At the ceremonial opening of the renovated glass factory building, folklorists, musicians, artists, photographers and other authors who will find a new creative space in the venue presented their works and vision to the general public.

“The Old Glass Factory is extremely important for the city of Ptuj and the people who live and create in it. With the renovated facility, Ptuj is getting a new youth and cultural centre, and by arranging this part of the city, we have improved the urban areas in the old city centre and made it more attractive for the residents and visitors of Ptuj,” wrote the municipality.

Uplifting the historic city centre

Giving a new lease of life to the old factory has helped uplift the city centre of Ptuj. As part of the renovation, public areas were entirely renovated, and new trees were planted.

The purpose of the renovation and revitalisation was to preserve the urban industrial heritage and ensure an even greater connection with the existing cultural and festival activities. The area has always been a place of creativity and a generator of ideas where future creators can hone their skills. Event organisers can now host their events for up to 150 guests in a unique venue in Slovenia’s oldest town.
