According to CSI data, the volume of tourism spending in 2022 will reach CZK 285.9 billion, up 84.3% year-on-year (before the pandemic it was CZK 308.2 billion). Foreign travellers accounted for 49% of total domestic tourism consumption, spending CZK 139.5 billion in the Czech Republic. The remaining 51% was accounted for by domestic visitors with CZK 146.4 billion. On average, foreign travellers spent 4.21 days in the country, while domestic guests stayed for 4.66 days.
In 2022, the share of tourism in gross value added in the national economy was 2.18%. It was more than the agriculture, forestry and fishing sectors combined. In comparison, in 2019, it was 2.76%. The share of tourism in total employment in the national economy reached 4.15% (in 2019, it was 4.41%). Employment in this sector is also growing. In 2022, one in 24 Czechs worked in tourism. Most often in the hospitality and hotel industry. The highest employment in terms of seasonality has long been in cultural services, where more women than men work. In terms of age, the majority of employees are between 25–34 and 45–55 years old.
The Tourism Satellite Account is a globally recognised system that enables international comparisons of tourism performance. It is endorsed by all major international tourism organisations (EUROSTAT, OECD, UNWTO). At the national level, it is an indispensable analytical and informative basis for decision-making by public authorities and the professional public. It is based on ten interconnected tables on an annual basis.
