How to live in a more sustainable way?

The Greencajt festival, which has been attracting numerous visitors for three consecutive years, is getting a new look this year and is preparing numerous surprises! The three-day international conference taking place from 22 to 24 May, will be held at a new location within the Zagreb Fair, in Pavilion 13, and will address the importance of the current moment we live in, trying to answer the question: How to live in a more sustainable way? Inspirational lectures and panels bring numerous innovative topics such as the development of sustainable digital applications, AI technology as a means to impact climate change, the future of the planet and how we (do not) care for the environment, the financial sector as a generator of necessary resources – money, sustainable tourism, business as a key driver of new trends, etc.

The most renowned world experts in the field of sustainability

Among the most prominent figures of this year’s Greencajt is Ben Fogle, who will share his experiences with a lecture on the topic “Wild: Back to the Roots”. The famous conservationist is known for his passion for exploring the wilderness and advocating for environmental preservation through his projects, books and television shows. He will share his rich experience and the journey he has undergone so far in an interesting lecture. Later, he will join a panel discussion with local speakers on the topic of the future of tourism and the development of Croatia as a top destination.

The Danish attraction, the island of Samsø, which was not even on the map of energy innovations until recently, has become a global pioneer in the use of renewable energy sources, led by the visionary leadership of Søren Hermansen, who will give a lecture titled “A Little Piece of Island That Changes the Game for the Planet”. He will join the panel “SHIFT HAPPENS: Power-up Green Energy” with local experts who will discuss the role of local and global companies in the energy transition. In addition to this topic, Connie Hedegaard, a prominent Danish politician, former Minister of the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities and EU Commissioner, will deliver a lecture titled “Learning from Denmark: How to Become the Most Sustainable Country in the World?”. More about Scandinavian experiences will be revealed at the intriguing panel “Vision of the Future from Sweden: How to Achieve Zero Emission Level”.

Three days of the festival, over 50 speakers and 45 sustainable topics

Among the well-known speakers at Greencajt, the editor of the show “What’s up Folks!”, Goran Milić, a renowned Croatian journalist, stands out. He will introduce visitors to different cultures and people, thus proposing a completely new perspective on the world.

Marc Buckley, UN Advisor, author of the Manifesto on Sustainable Development Goals and futurist, will join the panel “We Do Not Have a Crystal Ball, but We Have a Vision”, where experts will share their visions of future development, exploring how they perceive the challenges ahead of us. Dr. Lučka Kajfež Bogataj, recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize and leading Slovenian expert on climate change, will introduce the topic “How to Survive on a Planet That Does Not Grow?”. Zrinka Ujević, Head of the Representation of the European Commission in Croatia, will discuss “Europe Living the Green Deal”, highlighting efforts towards achieving European goals and plans and what is next to come.

Goran Jovanovski, co-founder of the EarthCare.ai platform and UN-awarded engineer, will share more information about the well-known application, which is not only an impressive technical achievement but also a tool that helps us better understand the destructive consequences of climate change through the analysis of key climate and environmental data. The duo of Samah El Hage, a leader in digital innovation at IKEA and Paolo Nardi Fernandez, an expert in the field of change in AI, will present their visions on how AI technology can shape a green future.

Douglas McMaster, owner of London’s Silo restaurant, the world’s first zero waste restaurant, and recipient of the BBC Young Chef of the Year award, will present his radical vision of waste-free food. He will join the panel “What Are We Serving on the Plate for Future Generations?”.

Marina Spadafora, ambassador of sustainable fashion, famous fashion designer and professor, will give a lecture titled “The Revolution Starts with Your Wardrobe”. Even though the fashion industry is known as one of the major environmental pollutants, this inspiring lecture will show us that change is indeed possible. Kim Carstensten, a global expert in the field of forest restoration, will explain how forests are facing numerous threats, including deforestation, degradation and natural disasters worsened by climate change.
