A WALK THROUGH HISTORY
You likely did not know Niš was among the most lauded wine regions in Former Yugoslavia. Unfortunately, the region was recognised mostly for mass wine production. Nonetheless, things have been changing lately. We warmly recommend that you start discovering the wine culture at the premier regional winery — the Malča Winery. The winery is the best in the region for a reason, having won numerous accolades for its wines. The 110-year-old wine cellar was revived by Bora Jović and his wife, Jelena Đošić Jović after it went bankrupt. Bora is known as a pioneer of modern winemaking in the region. Visiting the Malča Winery is a journey through the history of winemaking, culminating in a visit to the centuries-old Grusian amphoras, where they store orange wines. All products can be tasted in the winery’s pleasant restaurant. Pairing cuisine with wine results in a memorable experience, and guests can taste the history, tradition and love for nature in a single glass of superb wine or rakija. At the Malča Winery, you can experience a journey through wine time, by visiting 4 wine houses – The Roman House, The House of Nemanjić, Yugoslav House of the 20th Century, and Modern Winery. These houses differ in the spirit of the times they reflect, in their architecture, wine vessels and the method of wine production in them.
Well sheltered from the harsh winter winds, tucked away at the foot of the Svrljig mountains, the vineyards of the Malča Winery produce aromatic grapes which the Winery turns into rich and elegant wine. Indulge in a delightful experience by securing a reservation for a wine-tasting session at this more than a hundred-year-old winery. The venue is perfect for smaller groups of up to 60 people in the winter, whereas in the summer the glass terrace accepts an additional of 120 guests.
