Bratislava International Airport has numerous new routes in the pipeline thanks to a significant 100 million USD investment by Ryanair. In the summer, the low-cost carrier will launch five new routes from Bratislava to Bari, Gdansk, Milan Malpensa, Skiathos and Zadar, growing the airport’s capacity by 25%.

Ryanair expands portfolio in Slovakia

After extensive support from the Slovak government, Bratislava International Airport came to an agreement with Ryanair to add five new routes to the existing nineteen. The growth will also support the local environment, providing 1,000 local jobs, including 90 direct highly paid aviation professional jobs. The new routes will support inbound tourism while offering local citizens more travel options at Europe’s lowest fares. Ryanair will add an aeroplane to the two existing aeroplanes operating the routes.

Speaking on the momentous milestone, Dusan Novota, Bratislava Airport CEO, commented: “After intensive negotiations with the largest European carrier, Ryanair, we managed to agree on expanding the network of routes from Bratislava. Passengers will now have the option to fly to the main airport in Milan, the beautiful city of Gdansk in Poland, Bari in the Italian region of Apulia, Skiathos in Greece, and we are happy that Slovak holidaymakers will now have a direct air connection to Croatia.”

Direct connection with Copenhagen

At the end of last year, Norwegian also announced a new route from Copenhagen Airport, beginning operation on 28 June 2025 with two weekly frequencies. The route was last operated a decade ago. It will connect Slovakian travellers with the Nordics again. Norwegian will operate the flights on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Connecting the Orient with Bratislava

One of the most popular routes has been the connection to Istanbul. Thanks to Pegasus Airlines, travellers can head to the Turkish capital three times a week. Moreover, Pegasus Airlines launched a new direct route to Antalya in May 2024, which soon became one of the most sought-after destinations alongside London. Both destinations saw over 200,000 passengers travelling to and from them in 2024. These were followed by routes to Milan, Hurghada, and Skopje.

Last year, Bratislava International Airport recorded 1,948,008 passengers on arrivals and departures. With the new scheduled routes, the airport is looking to surpass those numbers in 2025. In addition, the airport is becoming an increasingly appealing choice for travellers to Bratislava, rivalling its more renowned big brother, Vienna Airport. The Slovakian capital is poised for a significant boost in accessibility.
