DUBROVNIK FACTORS

Natural and cultural factors

In 2024, Dubrovnik celebrates key cultural milestones: 45 years since the Old City’s UNESCO World Heritage inscription, 15 years since the Festivity of St. Blaise joined the Intangible Cultural Heritage List, and last year’s inclusion of Dubrovnik Republic archives in the Memory of the World Register. These recognitions make Dubrovnik one of the few cities globally with both material and intangible cultural assets designated as having universal heritage value.

General and transport infrastructure

United Airlines announced an expansion of its seasonal Dubrovnik-New York/Newark route, starting May 2, 2025, three weeks earlier than before, and increasing from four flights a week to daily flights, doubling seat availability. This expansion marks a major achievement for Ruđer Bošković Airport, strengthening its role as Croatia’s gateway to the U.S.

Tourist infrastructure

Dubrovnik is a leader in smart city initiatives. Awarded as the ‘Best Smart City in Croatia’ for its innovative approach, relying on local citizen involvement rather than big tech solutions to address challenges. Smart projects include crowd-monitoring cameras, smart parking sensors with a mobile app, solar-powered benches, and the Dubrovnik Eye app for reporting city issues. These initiatives promote safety, convenience, and transparency, making Dubrovnik not only beautiful but also a smart, forward-thinking city.

Meetings infrastructure

Park Orsula, located just 3 km from Dubrovnik’s Old City, is emerging as an exciting new congress destination. This unique venue, set atop a steep cliff with panoramic views of the city, sea, and islands, offers a blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage. Built over 20 years on the site of a 14th-century church, it retains historic elements like a caravan route, adding to its charm. Ideal for business events, congresses, and social gatherings, Park Orsula features an open-air amphitheatre with a capacity of up to 500 guests, modern audio-visual equipment, and flexible event setups. The venue provides technical support and catering options, making it perfect for conferences, corporate functions, or private celebrations.

Marketing Buzz

Dubrovnik has been picked up many awards as a leading MICE destination. This year, it collected the award for the best meeting destination in Central and Southeast Europe for medium-sized events at this year’s Meetings Star Awards. Dubrovnik is also a destination that was nominated for two prestigious awards at the World Travel Awards 2024. The city continues to be a magnet for MICE event holders and several FAM trips have been conducted throughout this year from all over the world.
