After a turbulent period where the hotel changed hands several times, the four-star tourism flagship will now become a part of the Hard Rock hotel chain that is renowned for its connection to rock’n’roll, and the collection of music artefacts that enriches the brand’s hotels. The city of Maribor is gearing up to strike a power chord that will echo far beyond the borders of Slovenia.
In what local leaders are calling the most significant development in the past three decades, Hard Rock Hotels & Casinos will plant its flag in the country’s second-largest city. The reimagined hotel will boast not just top-tier accommodations but a sensory experience steeped in musical history. Dejan Podgoršek, Director of 1912-Hotels for Slovenia, commented on the opening: “This is a game-changer for Maribor—an international statement of intent.”

A positive tourist wave
Maribor has been growing as a tourist destination, having recently surpassed half a million overnight stays in a single year—a staggering 26% increase from 2022. The lion’s share of those visits came from German, Croatian, and Austrian tourists.
Nestled at the foot of Pohorje, the hotel will seamlessly blend global glamour with local character. The project is expected to preserve the architectural elements of Hotel Habakuk while adding signature Hard Rock elements.
