WellingtonNZ has signed a partnership with Tech New Zealand to bring three of its tech-specific conferences to New Zealand’s capital city for the next three years or editions.

Aimed at positioning Wellington as a leader of innovation and international competitiveness by building on its strengths in knowledge-intensive, technology-driven industries, the agreement will see the city host:

– FinTechNZ Hui from 2026 – 2028 (FinTechNZ)
– Digital Trust Hui Taumata from 2026 – 2028 (Digital Identity NZ)
– Aotearoa AI Summit in 2026, 2028 and 2030 (AI Forum NZ)

Business Events Wellington Manager Irette Ferreira says the partnership is a collaborative effort to strategically identify conferences that support the city’s Tech Sector strategy, which includes the growth of the city’s creative, digital, science, and engineering fields. The partnership is supported by other Wellington-based tech organisations, including WellingtonNZ’s subsidiary and innovation hub Creative HQ.

“We know business events play an integral part in driving knowledge sharing and collaboration in key sectors,” Ferreira says. “Hosting these events will strengthen those connections and accelerate the local tech sector, fostering job creation, entrepreneurship, and global market growth.”

Colm Kearney, GM Startups & Tech Sector at Creative HQ says “These conferences will lift capability and strengthen connections across Wellington’s tech ecosystem. By bringing the community together around entrepreneurship, innovation and tech, they’ll help spark new ideas and support companies and jobs for Wellington.”

Tech New Zealand is a member-funded NGO working to create a safer, more equitable, sustainable and prosperous Aotearoa New Zealand enabled by technology. Within its membership are 16 tech communities, many of which run an annual conference.

Tech New Zealand currently runs its National Cybersecurity Summit (~500pax) and Digitising Govt Conference (~200pax) at Tākina Wellington Convention & Exhibition Centre. An existing relationship with WellingtonNZ has also anchored its annual Life Sciences Summit by BioTechNZ (~400pax) at Tākina since its inauguration in 2023.
Ferreira says: “This agreement will extend our relationship and bring additional conferences to the city in a mutually beneficial arrangement to build these tech events as fixtures in Wellington.”

Tech New Zealand Strategic Programmes Director, Yvonne Gill, says: “We’re delighted to be bringing 3 of our successful industry conferences to Wellington with the support of WellingtonNZ. Growth is a focus area of impact for our organisation, and as such, we’re committed to providing opportunities for our members and the wider tech ecosystem to connect and build capability all year round. Conferences are key moments of confluence that build knowledge, forge partnerships and supercharge growth – we look forward to seeing this impact play out in our nation’s capital.”
