In the heart of Slovene Istria
In the peaceful village of Šmarje pri Kopru, on the slopes of Sveta Marija na hribu, lies the vineyard and olive-growing estate of the Glavina family, known under the name Santomas. Across nearly 24 hectares of vineyards and a further 5 hectares of olive groves, the family’s story unfolds through a deep respect for tradition, Istrian grape varieties and the preservation of cultural heritage.
Through its more recent development, Santomas has evolved into a highly refined architectural estate. In 2005, a new building designed by Marko Lavrenčič was completed using characteristic Istrian blue stone and extending across approximately 2,400 m². Spread over three levels, event organisers can explore the entire production process — from grape processing and the oenological laboratory to the tasting room, storage cellars, the wine bank and a modern olive mill.
Event organisers can host team-building activities or incentive programmes in the warmly designed tasting room with distinctive Istrian details, which can accommodate up to 70 guests. The tasting experiences are varied and include wine and olive oil tastings accompanied by local snacks, as well as guided tours of the winery, the olive mill and presentations of the family’s story. Santomas also hosts receptions for business partners, concerts, social gatherings, and smaller seminars or congress events. During the warmer months, the indoor spaces can be extended to the outdoor terrace or park.
Santomas is a venue where the harmony of vineyards and olive groves is combined with refined architecture, the quality of its wines, the personal story of the family and the cultural heritage of Slovene Istria.
