A CULTURAL VENUE DATING BACK TO THE 13TH CENTURY

Dominican Monastery Ptuj, located on the western edge of Ptuj, was founded in 1230 by Matilda, the widow of Frederick III of Ptuj. The Dominicans carried out their mission in Ptuj until the dissolution of the monastery in 1785, when the buildings were converted into military barracks. At the beginning of the 20th century, the monastery’s most beautiful rooms were allocated to museum collections. Today, this remarkable monument serves as a cultural venue and is open to visitors from April to October. The monastery complex reflects both Gothic and Baroque architectural styles, while the adjoining park offers magnificent views of the Drava River.

The renovated monastery complex, covering 2,000 square metres, offers three halls equipped with modern technical facilities for hosting a wide range of events. Organisers can choose between the vast former church nave, the stucco-decorated monastic refectory and a smaller hall, all connected by a beautiful medieval cloister. Together with additional foyer spaces, the Sun Park, and the inner and southern courtyards overlooking the Drava River, Dominican Monastery Ptuj provides numerous possibilities for informal gatherings and accompanying conference activities.

The monastery’s former church nave now houses the main event hall at Dominican Monastery Ptuj. Arranged around the cloister are the remaining supporting spaces, including a smaller hall located in the former monastic refectory and another set within the former utility rooms. The cloister serves as the entrance foyer and the central circulation point throughout the complex. The venue is exceptionally well equipped from a technical perspective and is capable of supporting even the most demanding event productions.
