Slovenian gastronomy has once again achieved outstanding international recognition. The renowned MICHELIN Guide, the world’s most influential gastronomic brand, today unveiled the best Slovenian restaurants for the seventh consecutive year, once again confirming the exceptional quality and diversity of Slovenia’s culinary scene. The MICHELIN Guide Slovenia 2026 features 74 restaurants, two more than last year. Slovenia now boasts a total of 13 MICHELIN stars, one more than in 2025.

Hiša Franko, led by Ana Roš, has retained the highest distinction of three MICHELIN stars. Milka, under the leadership of David Žefran, has once again been awarded two MICHELIN stars. Eight restaurants have received one MICHELIN star, one more than last year, with Galerija okusov joining the list for the first time.

The Bib Gourmand distinction, recognising excellent value for money, has been awarded to 12 restaurants. This year also marks the first time that the MICHELIN Guide has presented the Opening of the Year Award in Slovenia. In addition, the Young Chef Award, Service Award, and Sommelier Award were once again presented.

These achievements further position Slovenia alongside the world’s leading gastronomic destinations. MICHELIN distinctions strengthen Slovenia’s international reputation as a premier culinary destination, encourage continuous quality improvements across the hospitality sector, and contribute to the development of sustainable tourism and higher-value-added experiences.

Hiša Franko, led by Ana Roš, remains among the elite of global gastronomy in 2026, once again shining with three MICHELIN stars in the MICHELIN Guide Slovenia.

Outstanding results were also achieved by other Slovenian restaurants awarded MICHELIN stars. Milka, led by David Žefran, proudly retains its two-star distinction for the fourth consecutive year.

Eight Slovenian restaurants impressed MICHELIN inspectors enough to earn one MICHELIN star. The new addition to the one-star category this year is Galerija okusov.

For the first time, the MICHELIN Guide introduced the Opening of the Year Award in Slovenia. The guide also presented the Young Chef Award, Sommelier Award, and Service Award. The Sommelier Award went to Nejc Farčnik of Grič (Šentjošt nad Horjulom). The distinction honours a sommelier whose extensive wine knowledge, understanding of flavour harmony, and personal approach create an experience that goes far beyond service alone.

The Opening of the Year Award was awarded to Gostilna Francl, led by Sebastijan Kovačič (Celje), recognising the successful revival of a well-known restaurant while honouring its traditions.

Food lovers travel here from around the world, and many choose Slovenia specifically because of its outstanding cuisine. Tourism and gastronomy are important pillars of the Slovenian economy, and we remain committed to improving quality, increasing productivity, and creating higher added value, all of which are essential for international competitiveness. These goals can only be achieved through dedicated, creative, and visionary individuals such as this year’s MICHELIN award recipients.”

MSc Maja Pak Olaj, Director of the Slovenian Tourist Board, emphasised: “This year’s MICHELIN Guide Slovenia results once again confirm that Slovenia is strengthening its position as one of Europe’s most recognisable gastronomic destinations. The inclusion of 74 restaurants from across the country demonstrates that top-quality gastronomy is becoming an increasingly important part of Slovenia’s tourism offering and a key driver of higher-value-added tourism development. Our partnership with MICHELIN contributes to Slovenia’s international visibility, raises quality standards, and strengthens the reputation of Slovenian chefs and restaurants. We are especially pleased that Slovenia received the Opening of the Year Award for the first time, alongside the Young Chef, Sommelier, and Service Awards, all of which highlight excellence across different areas of gastronomy. In terms of MICHELIN-recognised restaurants per capita, Slovenia ranks around the European average among countries included in the guide, confirming the remarkable quality and ambition of Slovenian gastronomy. Congratulations to all recipients. The Slovenian Tourist Board will continue to support the development and international promotion of Slovenia as a destination of outstanding gastronomic experiences.”

Slovenia joined the MICHELIN Guide in 2020 and achieved remarkable success from the very first edition. Six restaurants received MICHELIN stars that year, with five earning one star and one restaurant receiving two stars. In 2021, Slovenia gained an additional star, with six restaurants awarded one star and one restaurant retaining two stars. In 2022, nine restaurants held one MICHELIN star, while one restaurant once again received two stars.

The 2023 selection marked a major milestone, featuring one restaurant with three MICHELIN stars, one with two, and seven with one. By 2024, the guide included 63 restaurants. Hiša Franko, led by Ana Roš, retained the highest distinction of three MICHELIN stars, while Milka, led by David Žefran, once again earned two stars. Eight restaurants received one MICHELIN star, including newcomer Pavus. Eight restaurants were also awarded the MICHELIN Green Star for their commitment to sustainability.

Last year, the MICHELIN Guide Slovenia featured 72 restaurants, nine more than the previous year. A total of 12 MICHELIN stars were awarded to Slovenian restaurants. Hiša Franko retained its three-star status, Milka held two stars, and seven restaurants were awarded one star. Ten restaurants received the Bib Gourmand distinction for excellent value for money, while nine restaurants were awarded the MICHELIN Green Star. Slovenia also received three special MICHELIN awards for the first time: the Young Chef Award, Service Award, and Sommelier Award.

On 1 June this year, the MICHELIN Guide launched Mindful Voices, a new global editorial platform dedicated to showcasing inspiring individuals from the worlds of gastronomy, hospitality, and wine. At the same time, the MICHELIN Guide has discontinued the Green Star programme, which until now had been dedicated exclusively to recognising sustainability in gastronomy.
