Jason Tan Chin Foo, Chief Executive Officer of Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak), has been appointed Chair of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) Asia Pacific Chapter for the 2026–2028 term, becoming the first Sarawakian to take on the regional leadership role.

The appointment comes as Asia Pacific continues to strengthen its influence within the global business events industry, with regional collaboration, knowledge exchange and collective leadership emerging as priorities for a sector facing an evolving operating environment.

Tan Chin Foo said his focus during his two-year term would be to build stronger connections among ICCA members across the region while advancing professional standards, sustainability, and long-term impact.

“I’m honoured to be appointed as ICCA Asia Pacific Chair. My aspiration is to build a stronger, more connected and inclusive Asia Pacific Chapter where collaboration becomes our greatest strength,” said Jason. “Together, we will share knowledge, elevate professional standards and champion sustainable development to create a more resilient business events industry that delivers lasting value for our members, our destinations and our communities.”

In taking up the role, Tan Chin Foo also acknowledged the contribution of Jane Vong Holmes, Senior Manager – Asia Pacific at GainingEdge and Immediate Past Chair of the ICCA Asia Pacific Chapter. He expressed his appreciation for her leadership and service, highlighting the foundation she has established for the chapter’s next phase.

The appointment has also been welcomed by BESarawak leadership. Datu Hii Chang Kee, Deputy State Secretary (Operations) and BESarawak Chairman, described the new role as a reflection of the confidence placed in Tan Chin Foo by the international business events community.

“Jason’s appointment is a recognition of his leadership and dedication to the business events industry. We are honoured that he has been entrusted with this important regional role, and we are confident he will contribute meaningfully to strengthening collaboration, knowledge exchange and the continued growth of the business events industry across Asia Pacific.”

For ICCA, the appointment comes at a time when the Asia Pacific region is playing an increasingly significant role in the development of the international meetings and conventions sector. Waikin Wong, ICCA’s Asia Pacific Senior Regional Director, said Tan Chin Foo’s leadership and industry experience would support greater cooperation among members.

“Jason’s appointment is a testament to his leadership, industry expertise and commitment to advancing the business events sector. His collaborative approach and strategic perspective will be invaluable in bringing members together, strengthening regional cooperation and supporting the continued growth of the Asia Pacific Chapter.”

The Asia Pacific Chapter is one of ICCA’s six regional chapters, alongside Africa, Europe, Latin America & the Caribbean, Middle East and North America.

ICCA represents more than 1,000 member organisations across over 100 countries and territories and serves as a global platform for the international meetings and conventions industry. Through its regional structure, the association connects business events professionals and organisations around collaboration, knowledge exchange, advocacy and professional development.

Tan Chin Foo’s appointment places Sarawak at the centre of that regional network for the 2026–2028 term, while putting a clear emphasis on collaboration, sustainability and shared knowledge as the chapter looks to strengthen the resilience and long-term value of business events across Asia Pacific.
