MONOLITHIC MUSEUM THAT DOUBLES AS AN EVENT VENUE

The Polish capital recently welcomed a novel museum. The Museum of Modern Art Warsaw is 19,788 meters long, stretching on four floors above ground and two underground floors. The interiors have been designed to accommodate over 4,500 m2 of exhibition space. Boasting a minimalist, modern design and a monolithic white facade, the new museum is home to an exhibition space, a cinema, auditorium café and shop.

The building that seeps into its surroundings was designed by Thomas Phifer, who proposed that the building should look minimalistic as a composition of two cuboids: the lying cuboid of the museum and the tower of the museum cinema. The main exhibition spaces of the museum are located on the first and second floors around the central open staircase. Each has two sets of interconnected galleries, in the northern and southern parts of the building.

One of the venue’s most unique halls is the cinema with a 150-seat auditorium. The novel museum also features an educational space, conservation workshops, warehouses, café facilities and technical rooms. It can also be used by event organisers for a range of events. In addition, events can now be hosted in the abutting forum – a place for cultural activities that links Central Square and Świętokrzyski Park.
