It happens on top of the gastronomic revolution Aarhus is experiencing these years where talented farmers, producers and chefs are creating a remarkable food scene.

They will all be celebrated throughout 2017. Everywhere in Aarhus and Central Denmark Region tables will be set for food event, conversations, get-togethers and fabulous meals.

A sustainable food culture and the pursuit of the deliciousness. Those are the guiding principles for Aarhus and Central Denmark Region being European Region of Gastronomy 2017. Whatever challenges we encounter in the quest for better production methods and a better environment, we have to create good food. Food that is attractive, delicious and leaves the fewest scars on our planet and brings us together. In restaurants, in the workplace, in public and in our homes

One of the most remarkable events is The People’s Feast – the biggest dinner party in the history of Denmark. In the first weekend of September more than 2000 people will gather along a 500 meter long table at the public road by the sea. To encourage discussions and debates across the long dining tables, the various kitchen stations creates food with a vision, a story, and knowledge with an unexpected twist of favourite dishes.

The theme ’Rethinking Good Food’ frames the gastronomic program for 2017; a program filled with more than 100 events, where products, food culture and gastronomy are in focus.

Another remarkable event is The Catastrophic Meal. Here you can experience how a menu on a restaurant will look like in the future, if we don’t care about our planet. Right now we are in the ‘anthropocene’ so we better prepare ourselves for future food shocks. Scientists, biologists, and zoologists will together with Sci-Fi thinkers, scenario plotters and chefs discuss the potential larder of times to come. Together they will build a menu and then cook a meal for invited guests. The second event is open to the brave diner who dares to eat the future.

During 2017 you will also find events like Oyster Safaries and a competition where some of the best Danish chefs are competing to create the best gourmet version of the classic danish hotdog.
