With new hotel openings and expansions, Copenhagen’s Capital Region is on track to increase its hotel capacity to nearly 29,000 rooms in 2021 from around 23,000 rooms in 2017. Visitors can look forward to more hostels, hotels and boutique hotels.

The accommodation capacity in the Copenhagen Capital Region is increasing with both new hotel openings and existing hotels expanding. Visitors already have around 23,000 rooms to pick and choose from, and this number is going to increase significantly over the next few years. With a wide range of hostels, hotels and boutique hotels expanding the selection of accommodation options, the city will reach a total of close to 29,000 rooms.

Below, we have listed some of the latest developments and projects underway in Copenhagen.

New hotels in the heart of Copenhagen

Copenhagen’s city centre will continue to see an exciting range of brand new 5-star hotels when Hotel Herman K and Hotel Post Nord start operating in the coming years. They will join newly opened hotels such as Hotel Sanders and Nobis Hotel Copenhagen.

Nobis Hotel

Dutch boutique hotel chain citizenM also plans to open its first Nordic hotel in Copenhagen in late 2018. Located right next to Copenhagen’s Town Hall square, the hotel will hold approximately 230 rooms and will feature a top-floor living-room lobby overlooking the historic city centre.

Scandic expansions

In 2019, the Nordic hotel chain Scandic will expand its extensive portfolio with two new 4-star hotels, Scandic Kødbyen and Scandic Falconer. Scandic Kødbyen will be located in the popular Meatpacking District with 370 rooms while Scandic Falconer will open in the fashionable neighborhood of Frederiksberg with 330 rooms and a conference center that can accommodate events for up to 3,000 people.

Guests hoping for even more hotel options near Copenhagen Airport have 2020 to look forward to as Scandic has announced it will open its new 357-room airport hotel (Scandic Airport) that year. On top of that, in 2021 the hotel chain plans to open its largest hotel to date, Scandic Spectrum, which will have 632 rooms and several meeting and congress facilities.

Marriott’s newest brand coming to Copenhagen

Marriott’s newest brand, Moxy plans to open its first hotel in Copenhagen over the next two years. The hotel is expected to hold around 200 rooms. Launched in 2013, Moxy focuses on the rapidly growing 3-star-tier segment and the millennial traveller who understands that style can be delivered at attractive prices.

Hostels for the budget traveller

The Danish family owned Arp-Hansen Hotel Group has opened their first hostel, Steel House in the city centre. Steel House can hold 1,000 beds and 280 rooms, all with shower and toilet. Due to the new hostel’s large size, the hostel meets the needs of conferences with large groups of people who wish to stay central on a budget. The German A&O Hotels and Hostels Group have also opened their first hostel in Copenhagen. The hostel includes 270 rooms.

Finally, Wakeup Copenhagen will supplement the high-end options with another 2-star hotel offering 585 rooms in 2019. So will Cabinn that plans to open its new budget-friendly hotel that will hold a staggering 1,200 rooms.
