A HISTORIC CENTRE OF CULTURE IN Celje

At the beginning of the 20th century, the German community in Celje constructed an imposing three-storey building in the Old German Renaissance style as a counterpart to the Narodni dom Celje. Known as the German House, the building provided premises for numerous German associations and became an important social centre of Celje’s German-speaking bourgeois community. In addition to its association rooms, the German House also featured a large restaurant, hotel rooms, and a ballroom used for dances and formal occasions.

After the World War I, the building became part of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, was renamed from the German House to Celjski dom, and went on to become one of the centres of Slovene cultural life in Celje. Today, the halls operating under the name Celjski dom represent, alongside Narodni dom Celje, one of the most important public venues in the historic town centre.

In addition to its cultural and entertainment programme, organised by Zavod Celeia Celje, Celjski dom also offers event organisers the possibility of hiring its halls for seminars, private functions, business meetings, concerts, performances and catering services. Celjski dom provides several event spaces, including the Small Hall, the Grand Hall, the Mali Union Hall and the Winter Garden, together covering more than 700 m². A café is also available to guests. The largest hall accommodates up to 440 seats in the stalls and a further 70 seats in the adjoining balcony.
