This is a long-term, intergenerational gondola lift project: the inauguration of the new MK Maiskogelbahn and the new multifunctional Kaprun Centre in December 2018 sets new standards for quality and comfort. It marks the completion of the first construction phase – connecting Kaprun, Maiskogel and Kitzsteinhorn.
From December 2019, it will be possible to ride this string of pearls, consisting of six gondola lifts, directly from the town centre of Kaprun to the glacier and TOP OF SALZBURG mountain terminal (elevation: 3,029 m). It will be the longest continuous gondola railway in the Eastern Alps and will also span the largest change in elevation at 2,261m.
High-quality gondolas and stations
There is no mistaking the enthusiasm of Christian Hörl, marketing manager of Gletscherbahnen Kaprun AG: “The MK Maiskogelbahn is a modern, state of the art gondola ropeway, with each cabin seating 10 people and offering supreme comfort (heated seats, etc.). The 3K K-onnection facilities are yet to be finalized, but two themed cabins are currently planned. Journeys on the 3K K-onnection are bound to offer unique panoramic views.”
Christian Hörl also has good news for event organizers: “From December 2019, Kitzsteinhorn and Maiskogel will also be ropeway-connected, and the lifts can obviously also be used for events. There are private huts on Maiskogel, as well as the Maisi Alm at the valley station, which is also now part of our firm. The Maisi Alm is a restaurant serving hearty, diverse cuisine. And one great example of an outdoor activity in summer is the Maisiflitzer rollercoaster, an alpine coaster that’s open all year round.”
Attractions for incentives and corporate events
On Kitzsteinhorn, various attractions offer variety and diversity on the glacier. These include personal altitude diagrams and the new speed check, which measures your top speed and takes a high speed photograph as proof. On the new ski movie track near the Kitz lifts, winter sports enthusiasts can take on the starring role in their own action movie. A true racing feeling is guaranteed as the countdown timer beeps in the starting hut, the cameras whir and your personal race to the finish is perfectly staged.
Reduced journey times up onto the mountain
The K-onnection will also reduce journey times between stations – an important factor for event organizers. The journey from Kaprun to Maiskogel will take just 12 minutes. From the 2019/20 winter season, it will also be possible to ride directly from the town centre of Kaprun (elevation: 768m) via the Maiskogel and up to the TOP OF SALZBURG mountain terminal on the Kitzsteinhorn thanks to a 12km long string of pearls consisting of six gondola lifts. Gletscherbahnen Kaprun AG estimates the journey time at 45-60 minutes.
In principle, event organizers also have the option of using the lifts in the evening or exclusively at their leisure, in coordination with the operating company.
