In October, the Slovenia’s capital Ljubljana for the fifth time made it to the Global TOP 100 Sustainable Destinations list, what makes it one of the world’s most sustainable destinations. The 2019 Top 100 was revealed at the Global Green Destination Days (GGDD) on the Island of Mali Lošinj in Croatia.

Ljubljana made it every year since the inception of the award which is a part of the Global Green Destinations Days, one of the largest international conferences on sustainable tourism, since its inception five years ago. This year, the jury was particularly impressed with Moustache Tour which provides a unique experience while also providing a great example of a good sustainable practice. The Moustache Tour was designed by Ljubljana Tourism in cooperation with professionals for cultural tourism.

For the first time Ljubljana made it to the Global Top 100 Sustainable Destinations in 2014 and today Ljubljana is the most rewarded city for sustainable tourism achievements and the only city in the world to make the list five times. However, this is not the only world’s acknowledgment of Ljubljana’s green and sustainable politics. Recently Slovenia’s capital was highly commended for its Green Supply Chains Project at the WTM London, while in August Ljubljana received the 2019 European Smart Tourism Award, and back in March it received the Best of Cities Sustainable Tourism Award at ITB Berlin, to name a few.

The Top 100 list celebrates efforts of tourism destinations for responsible and sustainable tourism. Nominators had to provide extensive information on their destination sustainability efforts. Nominations were evaluated by the Sustainable Top 100 Team and by members of the Top 100 International Committee and country experts, coordinated by Green Destinations.
