Cankarjev dom – CD Cultural and Congress Centre opened on 9 January 2020 a special exhibition paying tribute to grand theatrical productions and memorable meetings that took place inside Cankarjev dom (CD) in the last 40 years since the start of its operations. Vintage CD exhibition, set in the Grand Reception Hall, in addition to the exhibited artefacts used in various shows, displays obsolete technology that enabled the making of the theatrical creations as well as large international conferences. Outdated loudspeakers, microphones and magnetic tapes, old classic theatre floodlights, slide and video projectors, scenic elements, props and costumes will bring back nostalgic memories.
President of Slovenian National Assembly, Dejan Židan, MA, opened the exhibition at the opening ceremony along Uršula Cetinski, Director General of Cankarjev dom who emphasized: “The technical equipment that used to be a vital part of our operations, is today an interesting museum exhibit.” However, not all of the former technical equipment is just a museum exhibit, many of them still perfectly work but have been replaced with more modern, updated technological and aesthetical standards.
Vintage CD exhibition, which will be on display until 5 February 2020, is certainly worth to visit as it brings an opportunity to step back in time and to learn how the big productions, including conferences and congresses inside Cankarjev dom halls’ have been created and supported flawlessly for 40 years. It brings an impressive insight into how the events, inside the building that consists of 22 multifunctional halls and rooms on staggering 36,000 square meters which can accommodate 5,000 visitors, were brought up to life and kept perfectly operating.
»Cankarjev dom has left a deep mark on the past four decades, influencing the life of our community, and enhancing our individual experiences with arts, as well as congress, social and protocol events. It served as the venue for pivotal moments in history that have radically affected both social order and our mode of living. Over the last forty years, Cankarjev dom has mirrored the entire world,« points out Uršula Cetinski, Director general of Cankarjev dom.
