Jazz Festival Ljubljana every year presents a musical celebration for Slovenia and its capital. Edition of 2020, named ‘Jazz From A Distance’, which was due to Corona crisis held in a hybrid form of a combination between live and streamed performances, was fully booked long ahead. As the interest in the event is huge every year, Cankarjev dom is expecting for the festival to be sold out this year as well. Despite the current difficulties related to Covid crisis, the festival this year is also expected to host international selection of artists.

»After introducing a unique concept of a virtual festival that reached world-wide audiences last year, which included live performances by local musicians and international artists whose exclusive videos blended seamlessly into an organic whole that was streamed online, Cankarjev dom’s 62nd Jazz Festival Ljubljana seeks to restore normality in providing live access to music-making, even if subjected to restrictions imposed to curb the COVID-19 epidemic,« says the organisational team of the festival lead by curators Bogdan Benigar, Cankarjev dom’s Jazz and World Music Programme Director, and Edin Zubčević, Artistic Director of Jazz Fest Sarajevo.

A prove of Ljubljana Jazz Festival’s international recognition lies also in the 7th European Jazz Network (EJN) Award for Adventurous Programming. »For its progressive programming that embraces the whole art form with an emphasis on European jazz while exemplifying the values of EJN such as geographical diversity and gender balance,« the jury explained the reasons for the award going to Jazz Festival Ljubljana in 2018.

Keep an eye on opening of the ticket sales in early May 2021.
