Tallinn has been confirmed as a candidate for the title of European Capital of Sport 2025; the winner will be announced in November this year.
Tallinn’s application underlines strengths such as strong municipal contribution to developing sports and promoting healthy and active lifestyles.
The European Capital of Sport is a title awarded annually to one city in Europe that values sport and promotes its development. The European Capitals and Cities of Sport Federation (ACES Europe) awards the title of World, European and regional (city, island, community, settlement) Capitals of Sport. Among other organisations, ACES Europe works in partnership with the European Commission.
So far, Estonian cities of Kuressaare (2020), Elva (2021) and Rakvere (2022) have been awarded the title of European City of Sport. Several European cities are awarded the title each year, but only one European city is awarded the title of European Capital of Sport each year.
Designated European Capitals of Sport have been Budapest in 2019, Malaga in 2020, Lisbon in 2021, The Hague in 2022, Glasgow in 2023 and Genoa in 2024.
