On 12 October 2023, the Estonian Convention Bureau and Visit Estonia hosted an educational seminar titled Estonian Meetings Industry Educational Event. With a bevy of experts from all of Europe and the Baltics, the event championed sustainability and sustainable transformation. Tallinn proved the perfect outpost for the event, itself a world-leading destination in green initiatives and the official European Green Capital in 2023.

The event’s main topics were digitalisation and sustainability within the meetings industry. As Estonia is a global leader in digitalisation and has a myriad of start-ups and companies specialised in the field, Tallinn was the perfect outpost for discussing these topics. Attendees could listen to experts who themselves started digitalising their communities and adopting sustainability into event organising.

The event, moderated by Gorazd Čad from Toleranca marketing, included a keynote session from Ivo J. Franschitz, Managing Director of ENITED, who discussed international business market behaviour and trends to help participants keep abreast with the developments in the industry. Next to take the stage was Huw Tuckett from Euromic, who uncovered the future direction of the corporate and incentive travel industry.

Sustainability and digitalisation go hand in hand

Participants could also hear how digitalisation marks the customer journey. Mark Struik from Please ask M shared why AI is not just a buzzword but can change the world. Sustainable enthusiasts had a lot to look forward to. Laura Teras from Wise, a global tech company, and Katre Kahre from Jolos, a company where sustainability is the standard, discussed how they started organising sustainable events.

Gorazd Čad, the event moderator, shared his tips on marketing and the latest tools that make an event organiser’s life much easier. The final panel discussion was an engaging fireside chat with all keynote speakers who unanimously concluded that the time has come for the meetings industry to go from words to actions.

Attendees of the educational event had the chance to venture into Tallinn’s picturesque streets, dotted with artisan shops and medieval buildings. Tallinn’s Old Town, boasting winding lanes and Gothic churches, is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
