For its signature European EMEC conference, MPI decided on a destination that is as surprising as much as it is inspiring. Luxembourg proved the perfect destination for convening leading event planners from MPI’s global Chapters, who could learn, discover and network in one of Europe’s most surprising and advanced countries. The event took place between 3 and 5 March 2024 and hosted some 200 leading meeting planners and local stakeholders from across the globe.

The opening plenary session featured Özlem Cekic, who provoked participants to consider what they do to promote diversity and inclusion in a divided world. She invited them to build bridges, a recurring theme throughout the event. The opening reception kicked off at the MUDAM – the Museum of Modern Art in Luxembourg, where attendees could enjoy a museum tour before relishing local wines, bites and beer. As attendees from around the globe ascended to Luxembourg, the MPI team was busy preparing an exciting conference to prompt discussion and industry growth.

On Monday, 4 March, the day commenced with a plenary session from Michael Jackson (the other), who spoke about the importance of delivering quality content and engaging attendees. Michael touched upon delegate fatigue and why events should become masters of their own brand(ing).

Navigating the world in radical uncertainty

This year’s MPI EMEC hosted a slew of personalised breakout sessions where attendees were guided and provoked by industry experts in sustainability, AI, trends in marketing and more.

There is perhaps no event industry expert as curious, adventurous and innovative as master storyteller Bo Krüger. When you join one of his presentations, you are not yet another passive listener idly absorbing or mishearing information; you help (re)write the story, voice your ideas and ultimately, facilitate the development of bold new ideas. Bo hosted a provoking engagement session on the first day, where attendees were encouraged to think outside the box all the while meeting like-minded individuals. On the second day, his presentation delved into the problem of addressing uncertainty in the industry. Bo outlined that we should not use hitherto known tools and solutions for solving new challenges and mysteries but instead seek creative alternatives. The smiles and nods of approval from attendees are a testament to Bo’s excellent work as knowledge trickled down to the last.

Apart from superb sessions and networking, MPI does another thing outstandingly: hosting great speakers and organising memorable experiences for their attendees. One of them is SongDivision’s team collaborating program that fosters joint work, creative thinking and songwriting. They helped engage the audience from start to finish.

The final day started with a plenary session from Sandro Forte, the CEO of Forte Financial Group, whose presentation – “Dare to be different” -invited the audience to focus on their goals and dare to achieve them in their business lives. The day continued with unique presentations and workshops on storytelling, AI and why events fail.

Why MPI EMEC?

The concept of EMEC marries the best of an educational platform and networking event. MPI EMEC Luxembourg is a case in point. Not only could participants learn, share ideas and explore an under-the-radar destination, but they also had the chance to connect, which is the essence of the meetings industry. One thing remains certain: MPI’s slogan – “When we meet, we change the world” – is undoubtedly still true.
