The Council for Science and Technology of the Republic of Slovenia handed out 15 awards and prizes on 28 November 2024 in Cankarjev dom. The recipients included five female scientists, including Prof. Dr. Ljubica Marjanovič Umek from the Faculty of Arts at the University of Ljubljana, who received the Zois Award for Lifetime Achievement in developmental psychology.
Last year, the awards were given out in Linhart Hall, while this year, the venue’s largest hall, Gallus Hall, staged the award ceremony. This heralds a greater recognition and understanding of the significance of science and research in the country. The programme intertwined science and culture, while guests were entertained by young artists, the orchestra and choir of the Academy of Music at the University of Ljubljana and dancers of the Ballet School in Ljubljana. The keynote speaker was the Prime Minister of Slovenia, Mr. Robert Golob, who emphasised the importance of investing in science and development to advance society.
Cankarjev dom is considered one of the most elite locations in Ljubljana, where numerous esteemed award ceremonies take place. The event’s organiser was the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation. The musical and accompanying programme was supported by a designated producer, scenographic, light director, graphic image designer and the RTV Slovenia’s team, which also broadcast the award ceremony live. The technical team of Cankarjev dom helped execute the event with their experienced light, scene and video technicians who know the stage of Galuss Hall like the back of their hands.
Cankarjev dom is proud of the achievements of Slovenian scientists, appreciating their integral role in promoting Slovenia worldwide. The venue encourages them to use their recognition in their respective fields to bring international scientific congresses to Slovenia. Cankarjev dom’s congress team can help them prepare bids and organise and execute events with their know-how and experience.
