Gault&Millau Slovenia has revealed its top culinary awards for 2025, celebrating the country’s finest restaurants and chefs. This year’s selection includes three new four-cap restaurants, while 31 establishments received three caps. Tomaž Kavčič of Gostilna Pri Lojzetu was honoured as Chef of the Year 2025, recognising his dedication to Slovenian gastronomy.

Held at Festivalna dvorana in Ljubljana, on March 18, the awards ceremony brought together Slovenia’s leading culinary talents. Hiša Franko retained its place as the highest-rated restaurant, and a new generation of chefs was recognised for their contributions to the evolving gastronomic landscape. The awards also highlighted Slovenia’s growing reputation as a premier culinary destination.

At the peak of the evening, Slovenia’s Minister for Economy, Tourism, and Sport, Matjaž Han, handed the Chef of the Year award to Tomaž Kavčič. This year’s event showcased a refined level of excellence, creativity, and innovation within Slovenia’s culinary world.

Mira Šemić, Director of Gault&Millau Slovenia, praised the innovation and passion driving the industry: “It is incredibly rewarding to shake hands with such outstanding chefs, who represent the pinnacle of Slovenian gastronomy. This year, we truly celebrated the excellence of our restaurateurs and winemakers, as well as the rich culinary heritage they carry forward. Our inspectors return each year inspired by the innovation, dedication, and high standards that define Slovenia’s dining scene.”

Gault&Millau inspectors evaluate restaurants anonymously, assessing not only the food and wine but also service, ambience, and overall experience. The 2025 guide features more than 200 restaurants, including both fine dining establishments and hidden gems of Slovenia’s culinary scene.

Gault&Millau Slovenia is supported by the Slovenian Tourist Board, which continues to promote the country’s gastronomic identity on the global stage. The full list of restaurants will be available in the printed guide, set for release in April.
