SPLISH SPLASH IN PRAGUE'S UNSHAKABLE MARRIOTT
LOCATION
Within view of the Powder Gate Tower, where royal gunpowder was once stored, the Prague Marriott Hotel is conveniently tucked away in the heart of Prague. Though competitors abound in the vicinity – the Hilton Prague Old Town sits just across the road – the iconic hotel brand has become one of the favourite boltholes for guests visiting the city by the Vltava River. From here, guests can easily reach the very heart of the city – the Astronomic Clock, the Charles Bridge and even the Prague Castle are nearby. Guests tired of the tourist sights can venture off the beaten track and explore the vibrant Karlin and Žižkov districts. Dotted with artisan bistros, a reimagined military barracks (Kasarna Karlin), community spaces and copious “hospodas” – a term that does justice to the beer-pouring institutions of Prague – these two areas are a magnet for hipsters, foodies and startups. The brand’s easily recognisable logo juts out from the neighbouring buildings, even if the facade is relatively minimalistic and toned down. Thanks to its excellent location in the heart of town, the hotel has become a reliable choice for international travellers who know what they seek and what to expect.

ACCESSIBILITY
Prague’s accessibility is exemplary. Thanks to its extensive global network, Prague Airport makes arrivals easy for international travellers. With a new terminal in sight, the airport is slated to exceed 18 million travellers in 2026. Guests arriving by car will easily navigate the city’s cobblestone streets in the centre to find the underground parking garage reserved for hotel guests. With 440 parking spaces and allocated electric charging stations, this is one of the hotel’s trump cards. Guests wishing to explore the city can opt for the iconic red trams or the swift, clean and timely metro lines that connect the city’s districts. Yet, given the city centre is within spitting distance, we recommend sauntering the charming streets lined with Art Nouveau facades and Gothic churches. Cycling, on the other hand, is a more adrenaline-pumping sport here – most bike lanes are faded, and drivers usually overlook passengers on two wheels. Luckily, the bike lanes alongside the Vltava are tidy and do not obstruct anyone. Sustainably-aware guests can also arrive by train – the Česke Drahy Comfortjet, for instance, will soon connect Copenhagen via Hamburg and Berlin with Prague. This elegant carriage also includes a dining car, making travel both straightforward, sustainable and stylish.

COLD STARTER - Architecture and aesthetics
A standout part of the hotel is the conference area, seamlessly integrated with the hotel.
The Prague Marriott Hotel is a full-fledged Marriott property. As part of a holistic renovation between 2019 and 2021, marking its 20th anniversary, the hotel unveiled a new lobby and conference area, imbued with a freshness that eclipses classic Marriott design. This takes the form of marble registration desks, flanked by gently illuminated, pastel-coloured walls that convey a sense of toned-down luxury. The interplay of geometric lines on the carpets and wooden panels creates a pleasant, inviting ambience. In a way, this is a subtle nod to Czech Cubism. The lobby is a place for casual chats, lounging or a game of chess – Marriott’s take on a modern community space. The hotel corridors feature refined lighting and blue-toned carpeting, which contribute to the overall sense of well-being. Even though the hotel is well-frequented, it appears fresh and not at all weathered. Several details in the hotel stand out, including the lift with sleek black panels and gilded accents. A standout part of the hotel is the conference area, seamlessly integrated with the hotel. With diffuse light from the atrium’s glass canopy, the space feels modern and inviting. Event organisers can easily plan large-scale events for up to 650 guests here.

WARM ENTRÉE - The staff and the culinary experience
Marriott is notoriously famous for cultivating a people-first culture among its employees. The Prague Marriott Hotel is a case in point. The entire hotel staff is young, energetic, and eager to help guests and one another. As we entered the hotel, we noticed a large group checking in and expected it would take some time. We were not mistaken. Despite some check-in hurdles, the staff was attentive and courteous, offering numerous tips on the facilities, nearby sights, and more. We must particularly praise Ruth, who showed genuine interest in our travels and kept us engaged while we waited for the sluggish computer to complete the paperwork.
An odour of freshly made omelettes wafted through the air as Kongres Magazine waltzed to one of the tables, designed to provide intimacy.
The hotel’s cuisine is guided by local ingredients and international flavours, featuring a variety of dishes. We tried breakfast in the Artisan Restaurant – a subtly illuminated space, where the dark green and blue colours of the upholstery match seamlessly with the wooden flooring. An odour of freshly made omelettes wafted through the air as Kongres Magazine waltzed to one of the tables, designed to provide intimacy. What caught our eye were the fresh herbs and garden cress cultivated in the fridge and used heavily by the head chef. We admired the arm-sized jars filled with fermented deliciousness, from fruits to vegetables. The staff was attentive, wearing light purple shirts and dark grey aprons, giving them a less uniform, more casual look. As expected of a Marriott flagship, the breakfast offers international classics as well as local specialities, such as fresh local goat cheese and pastries like loupak. Undoubtedly, this buffet selection will satisfy the vast majority of guests. Those seeking à la carte can opt for in-room dining. For less peckish guests, the Artisan coffee corner offers daily smoothies and flavourful coffee, along with a selection of sweets and pastries. Overall, the gastronomy will meet the expectations of international travellers. Still, to become a culinary name in its own right, the hotel will need to evolve its dining options to compete in Prague’s saturated culinary market. A “Sunday brunch” menu might’ve been trending a decade ago. Keeping in step with the times is paramount for international hotel chains.

MAIN COURSE – The meetings offering at the hotel
Hotel rooms
The spaciousness of the rooms at Prague Marriott Hotel is likely one of the reasons travellers choose this hotel. As soon as you set foot in the room, you are enveloped in a sense of comfort and timeless elegance. The centrepiece of the room is the German-made FBF bed, which ensures guests wake up well-rested and reinvigorated. The bed’s beige headboard pairs well with the pastel colours that dominate the room and the darkwood furniture typical of Marriott hotels. Another praiseworthy element is the geometrically patterned carpet, which exudes comfort. A lounger beckons guests to leaf through magazines or peruse books as the daylight floods the room through the window. The bathroom befits Marriott standards – elegant pastel-hued tiles, an imperial red granite countertop and best of all, This Works cosmetics – a brand that provides trusted skincare and wellness solutions. While this hotel room is not bold or innovative in design, it provides precisely what most Transatlantic travellers seek: spaciousness, comfort, and a range of amenities. Did we mention the room has a hidden walk-in closet and a well-stocked minibar? The only drawback is the outdated shower curtain, which appears out of place and poorly made.
Meetings centre
The conference centre, with its separate entrance, still smells new. With a bright foyer and a selection of boardrooms and meeting rooms, it perfectly complements the hotel’s size. The main Bomehia Ballroom, with a capacity of 650 in a theatre setting, is well-suited to host the most demanding events. Set on the mezzanine floor, the conference centre is flooded with natural daylight and even has eleven breakout rooms. Above all, the hotel’s advantage for event organisers is its private entrance and parking. To top it all off, the hotel offers interactive catering with tailor-made menus that champion zero-waste cuisine.

DESSERT – The extras
The spa area, inaugurated in 2024, is a welcome addition to the hotel’s facilities and a competitive advantage. Here, guests can unwind after a day of traversing the streets of Prague or a long day of meetings at the hotel’s conference centre.

FLOP – NEGATIVE SURPRISES
While the renovation successfully refreshed the lobby and conference area, some rooms remained largely unchanged. The bathroom in ours was timeworn, with some parts of the furniture in dire need of change. The air conditioning is not particularly quiet, which disturbs guests’ sleep.
TOP – POSITIVE SURPRISES
Event organisers seeking a conference centre in the city centre with separate parking and private parking should look no further than the Prague Marriott Hotel. Here, the conference centre is immediately connected to the hotel part and the restaurant, which doubles as a community area. Recognised as a top wedding venue, we can easily imagine the conference area hosting multi-day educational conferences and even festivals. Marriott’s flagship outpost in Prague has a penchant for events and conferences.
CREATIVITY
Prague Marriott Hotel boasts a timeless design that has matured gracefully. Still, this is the classic Marriott brand, not one of the hotel chain’s bold and youth-centred brands, such as Moxy or W Hotels. In other words, guests should not expect extravagant, avant-garde artworks, iridescent colours, or abstract installations. The style is subdued, toned-down and refined. If the design is rather unoriginal, the cuisine certainly is – the fermented goods served in the restaurant are wondrous concoctions that have helped the hotel edge out its competition. If guests prefer a bolder design, the W Prague is a better choice.
SUSTAINABLE ENDEAVOURS
The hotel empowers its guests through subtle messages and finesse. Case in point: the spa slippers are no longer wrapped in plastic.
As the first Marriott property in the Czech Republic to earn the Green Key certificate, the hotel is committed to optimising its carbon footprint and implementing a range of sustainable measures. This philosophy is evident in the cuisine: the Artisan Restaurant serves dishes with ingredients sourced within 200 kilometres. Adopting a zero-waste approach, the restaurant also ferments a range of ingredients. Guests can thus savour unique dishes, such as pumpkin seed emulsion or lemonade from plum pits. Marriott is a hotel chain where sustainability is embedded across every property. Unsurprisingly, the hotel empowers its guests through subtle messages and finesse. Case in point: the spa slippers are no longer wrapped in plastic. The hotel’s sustainable initiatives are exemplary. In the future, event organisers would appreciate even more information about the energy efficiency of the AV equipment in the conference centre.

FINAL IMPRESSION AND CREDIBILITY
After a day of crisscrossing Prague, staying at the Prague Marriott Hotel provides an oasis of peace and comfort.
Putting people first is the hallmark of Marriott properties. In Prague, the Marriott offers even more – a welcome respite from the city’s hustle and bustle, comfort, superb and diverse cuisine, and professional, guest-first service. After our visit, we can confidently state that the hotel aims to attract guests who know what to expect. The hotel’s greatest advantages are the conference centre and the immediate proximity to the city centre. The restaurant is uniquely innovative with its sustainable approach and fermentation methods. Despite everything being precisely where it should be and on par with competitors, we had hoped for a few eye-catching features that would make the stay truly memorable. The devil is in the details, and we missed those here. Nonetheless, for the price, the hotel is a most rational choice that delivers exactly what it promises. After a day of crisscrossing Prague, staying at the Prague Marriott Hotel provides an oasis of peace and comfort.
