CASTLE, LAPIDARIUM AND PARK FOR EVENTS

Kromberk Castle, just a stone’s throw from Nova Gorica, serves as the main exhibition venue of the Goriška Museum and is also a sought-after place for meetings, social gatherings and new discoveries. The ground and first floors host permanent exhibitions dedicated to art and cultural history, while the second floor offers a flexible space for temporary exhibitions, lectures, symposia, and other activities. The castle is surrounded by a beautiful park featuring an amphitheatre and an open-air lapidarium.

Kromberk Castle was originally built in the 13th century, and in the early 17th century it was purchased by the nobleman Ivan Maria Coronini. The castle regularly hosts thematic temporary exhibitions, often forming part of broader programme cycles, including contributions to the European Capital of Culture 2025 projects. The second-floor space is also regularly used for professional lectures, round-table discussions and symposia.

A gastronomic destination

In the 21st century, Kromberk Castle has established itself as an institutional centre that connects the cultural, historical and artistic narratives of this part of Slovenia through its permanent collections, temporary exhibitions and public programmes. Owing to its location, architectural identity and rich programme, the castle functions not merely as a repository of the past, but as a living cultural organism. Within the castle itself, visitors are also welcomed by a restaurant known for its use of fresh, seasonal ingredients and for its modern interpretations of classic dishes from the Goriška region.
