EMBRACED BY A DRAMATIC ROCK LANDSCAPE

The largest underground natural stone quarry in Slovenia is located near Sežana. Its impressive limestone walls have provided the backdrop for the traditional Festival kamna, which has transformed the quarry into a venue for concerts and fashion shows. This cultural and fashion event is complemented by a culinary and wine experience that each year attracts several hundred visitors into the striking rocky setting of Lipica. The uniqueness of the location makes it particularly suitable for brand presentations, especially in the automotive sector, as recognised by DS Automobiles Slovenia.

In addition to hosting brand presentations, musical performances and fashion events, Kamnolom Lipica also stages annual festivals dedicated to promoting stonemasonry and highlighting the rich cultural heritage of the quarry, which has been in operation here since the 16th century. Today, the site is managed by Marmor Sežana d. d., which operates four quarries supplying locally sourced stone characteristic of the Karst architectural tradition. At the same time, the company is addressing the challenges of sustainable resource management, helping to preserve the quarry for future generations while ensuring a minimal environmental impact.

Kamnolom Lipica has played an important historical role, as its stone — a marble-like limestone — has been used in numerous historically significant buildings and monuments across Slovenia. It also forms part of the natural and cultural heritage that contributes to the identity of the Karst region. The quarry can accommodate approximately 500 visitors and is well suited to concerts and a wide range of gala events.
